A couple of days ago I posted a thread about which FJ I should get out three different Cruisers. A bunch of people responded with great suggestions which helped me finally come to a decision to get the one owner 94' locked FJ80 with 78k miles. In any case, I drove it home up the pacific coast highway from LA with my daughters who were both enamored with the moon roof and strange truck daddy bought. A GREAT FIRST DRIVE BTW!
Ok so here's the story I couldn't make up. This all happened in Santa Monica btw. During the transaction at the bank the guy who I've been interacting with about the car shows me the CA title and asks me if I recognize the owner's name on the title. I didn't so I said no. Then he asks me if I recognize the name"Bea Arthur" (her pen name I did recognize) which took me a second but once he mentioned the show "Golden Girls" I instantly remembered she was the tall one. So now I'm wondering where he's going with this. When i tell him yeah I do recognize that name, he tells me that Bea Arthur was his mother and that this vehicle was owned and driven by her until she died a couple of years ago where it then became ownership of her estate. Ever since and as a partial executor of the estate he drove it occasionally for a grocery getter. Now I thought that this was pretty crazy but didn't have any real validity until we went back to his house where it had several wall memorabilia that confirmed his story. Not that I didn't believe him, but just seemed too crazy to be true that I was buying a Golden Girl's FJ80. Not to mention the fact that her son (the guy I was talking to) has been in several famous movies as well. Most notably "A Few Good Men"
I really don't care about hollywood stars and actors very much. In fact most of the time, I feel we'd be all better without some of their antics, but this story really was pretty unbelievable. What an EFFIN crazy world!
Below are some pics of my first FJ80.
