Your best bet is going to be to do what was suggested above, blank off the egr port on the manifold. And leave everything else. If you want to remove all the rest of it too, trace the vacation line back to its origin and plug it. Some sensors may need their wiring bridged to stop showing fault lights. When I got rid of all that on my car it was a lot easier because I had no computer or dash with warning lights haha

Thank you for your suggestion. Do you face any problem after remove the whole system? The vacuum hose connected to the fuel pump is quite complicated :crybaby:

On the Aussie ones that vac pipe also runs the idleup for the aircon so just block it at the EGR solinoid.

Thanks. Do you have any idea on how to remove the glow light signal on dashboard? How can I overwrite the signal to the "computer"?

To 79Stevo, Mate I have the same problem as you did with the glow plug light staying on. Also when it's on my 1HZ runs like crap and has bugger all power and blows diesel rich white smoke? I have tried disconnecting the entire EGR system from the EGR/ECU and still no change? Also tried plugging the tube to the EGR valve but no change?? Any suggestions? PS. It's a 2006 HZJ78R N/A. Cheers,

How did u disconnect the EGR system from ECU? U began from where? Straight behind the glove box?

I disconnected the plugs from the EG control unit behind the glove box and blanked the exhaust return and blanked the vacuum lines to the EGR valve but the glow plug light comes on , gos off a couple of times then stays on? The engines starts no problem but after a minute of so it starts to run rough and blow rich white smoke. I took it for a drive to test it under load and it's lacking a lot of power. Have put new injectors in, the timing is spot on and cylinder pressures are within spec so it's got me stumped??

I also tested the EGR solenoids and one is faulty although I thought with disconnecting the EG control unit this would bypass the solenoids so the faulty one wouldn't be a problem??

79stevo's had a busted coolant temp sensor, apparently there's one that sends a signal to the egr computer. His never ran like crap or smoked from memory, was just gutless. Do these later HZs have any electronic control over the timing?

Ur vacuum solenoid is malfunctioning. It should suck air when there is no load and stop when there is load. I think urs suck air all the time.

The EGR has some control over fuel pump timing according to the website too.

Excellent hzj79lee! Thats exactly the info I needed. I'll replace the solenoid in question and let you know how it goes.

I think removing rather than replacing useless EGR system is long term solution. EGR will reduce the reliability of our engine.

Unfortunately It needs to pass a government road worthy before it can be registered so I'll have to replace it for now and then blank it all off after it's registered.

do I blank off the lines at the vacuum pump, blank the exhaust return and disconnect the plugs from the unit behind the glove box ? Will this bypass/eliminate the entire EGR system? (I need to physically make it look like it's still there in case of road side inspection).

You may insert a small bearing into the 1st vacuum hose from the air intake manifold. This will stop the air-sucking system. Where are you located?

Do you live by the seaside?
