I want to replace a clutch in a HZJ75, it isn't actually worn out but it seems that in the past someone has fitted some sort of super duty clutch which has resulted in a very firm pedal. I'm not concerned about my leg so much, but I am concerned about the flimsy mounting points of the clutch master cylinder.

I tried getting a genuine Toyota clutch from Amayama, but they said they're not available.

Local Toyota dealer is a last resort.

Terrain Tamer are my normal "go to" for aftermarket parts, they can sell me a "standard" clutch with 10% more clamping force than the original, or a "heavy duty" clutch with 25% more clamping force than the original.

I'm not opposed to more clamping force, but I had always presumed it would translate to stiff pedal? Some say it doesn't?

Price is not as much of a consideration for me as achieving standard pedal force on this one.

Any suggestions?

Here you go. They ship internationally.

Factory part suppliers at a fraction of OEM Toyota boxed-parts cost.

HZJ75 clutches are still available, you just need to know how to use a Toyota parts database to get your part numbers, and understand how supersession works. There is no way that Toyota have stopped supplying clutches for that model.

Since you don't give details of your vehicle, I have assumed a 1996 Aus-delivered HZJ75:

Disc - 31250-60432 Toyota 31250-60432 (3125060432) DISC ASSY, CLUTCH - https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/3125060432
Pressure plate - 31210-36160 Toyota 31210-36160 (3121036160) COVER ASSY, CLUTCH - https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/3121036160
For the pressure plate, Partsouq do an OEM AISIN pressure plate: https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=CTX084

If your vehicle came originally with a clutch booster that is now removed, you may have a weak bulkhead mounting area for a non-assisted master cylinder.

Before throwing a new clutch at this, I would investigate why the pedal is so stiff.

As @Eurasiaoverland has alluded to, is your clutch booster missing? If not is it functioning correctly? If you have to put so much force to move the pedal that you are concerned for the master cylinder mount, there is a problem there. Are things misaligned? Did someone simply replace a spring with a bigger stiffer one? Go through the whole system thoroughly.

It's a 1991 model. All I can tell you is Amayama parts told me the clutch and pressure plate were not available.

I've never seen any HZJ75 (or any HZJ79 for that matter) with a clutch booster. But I haven't owned this one for long enough ago to know its history and therefore can't be sure it never came with one when it was new.

Is there any way to know based on mountings?

This is the vehicle in question:

This is a 1996 HZJ75 that I have owned for long enough to know that it didn't come with a clutch booster. It has a nice easy to operate pedal like you would expect a HZJ75 to have. However, a couple of years ago, it broke the pedal mountings up under the dashboard because they are obviously inadequate. So if a stock standard vehicle ends up with broken clutch pedal mountings, then there is probably a higher chance that a stiff pedal vehicle will be putting more strain on its mountings and therefore may break at some point in the future.

This is a 1995 HZJ75.

I don't know the history of whether anyone has removed a clutch booster, but this one also has a nice easy to operate clutch pedal.

Also, a neighbour with a 1998 HZJ75, with no clutch booster, fitted a "heavy duty" clutch to his when the original wore out, and it caused his pedal to be stiff to operate straightaway.

So, is there any way of knowing if my 1991 has had a clutch booster removed?

The 1991 part numbers are as above. Did you order from the UAE? They may have been out of stock, but they are still available. So if you order from Japan, you can be sure to get it.

Friciton disc 31250-60220 has been superseded to 31250-60432.

Clutch cover 31210-36160 has been superseded to 31210-36330.

If you're not happy ordering by part number from a database, then you have to pay the mark-up for an agent/dealer to do the work for you.

Okay so we've worked out it's not missing a booster, great. Therefore I will presume it is due to someone thinking it was a good idea to fit a heavy duty clutch in the past. This is only a presumption, not a proven fact.

Yes, I can pay the dealer tax at the local Toyota shop if I have to.

I can also consult the internet forums for opinions on non-genuine clutch options that people have had good success from that don't increase the pedal force. So here I am!

Sure, but the only way of being sure of having standard clutch pressure is by having all original parts.

Personally, I would look for a local AISIN supplier that can get you the OEM parts for a lot less than the dealer (AISIN make Land Cruiser clutches, so providing you get the right kit, you are buying the same thing).

I have the clutch disc 31250-60432 in my parts collection in case you want any measurements. Unfortunately I've not fitted it so can't comment on pedal pressure.

Your MC looks genuine, check that your slave/release cylinder is too.

I have a 1991 HZJ75 from Australia.
My clutch spring mount under the dash gave way a few years ago.
Add some structural support and Bob's your uncle.
Using the HD clutch and no issues. Unit has over 500,000 on the odometer.

Oz did not receive the clutch booster in a 75 series.

The part numbers provided above by @Eurasiaoverland are correct and available from any place on the planet that sells Toyota parts.

I've had another attempt with Amayama.

I agree, there's no way that Toyota have stopped supplying clutches for that model.

I also agree that they should be available from anywhere on the planet that sells Toyota parts.

This time they are able to supply a pressure plate, so that's better than last time.

But:

Skip Amayama and go to Partsouq or Impex.

Otherwise get a TT standard clutch.
