Hi Alll,
My 1990 HZJ73 needed new rear callipers. One was siezed and there's no way I'd not replace them in pairs.
Got to love having a JDM in Canada. I looked up the parts and was quoted over $600 each side for genuine Toyota, and $300 a side on reman from one supplier ( no core) and $220 less $30 core for each from another. This is for a single pot calliper, yeesh!
I noticed that the part number for an HDJ81 was identical to the HZJ and that the FZJ80 numbers were really close. I then called John from Radd Cruisers to see if he could source at least the HZJ or HDJ ones for me. He told me that the FZJ would fit but I'd have to remove the bracket (shield) that came with it and it was then a straight bolt on. In fact he said he could source them for me and charge me some money, but I could get reman from a regular autoparts place. Nice guy!
My cost with my account at Lordco was $119 per side. My buddy Ciaran Wilson from Cuiserland did the install as the truck's with him for a big service and his willingness to try this out proved excellent! Niether of us had heard of this solution so it was worth looking into. The install was a non-event. Figured I saved a minimum of $450 with shipping but not accounting for tax.
Cheers,
John
