Check this out this HZJ80 was the only non-porsche to finish in the top 10 of the 7000km transsyberia rally driven by a german woman who's name I will spare from butchering! Any way i just watched the hour long special on speed tv it was pretty cool. Oh and one more thing the cruiser destroyed all of the non porsche comeption besting the much vaunted rovers by a ridiculous amount of time and also easily squashing the mighty G wagen by almost 20 hours... I love that our trucks kick the crap out of these supposed masters of the offroad ! better than a cruiser my A$$........:grinpimp:

Yeah, I saw that also. What's up with that many super high $$ Porsches in that type of race anyway. I think in stock form those are $110K + aren't they ? Good showing for them & not bad for the HZJ80.

I honestly think it's a good showing for a great vehicle coupled with a good driver/co-driver team. To me, that makes more of a difference than what they're driving. I'm pretty certain had they been driving a Nissan Patrol with an engine of similar power and torque, say a TD42t, they probably would have place in the same or nearly the same spot. But it does make good showing for those 80 series trucks. Rough, but they still have all the amenities you could ever ask for in them. Though that one is probably been stripped out and prepped for racing.

the whole event was sponsered by Porsche as a promotion for their Cayenne. I would think those teams had unlimited tech support and parts availability as well.

In any event of this type, prep and support along with driver skill count for more than the car itself.

If you can afford to have suspension changed at every service stop, fresh tires etc etc, you're going to be able to push alot harder than someone with less support.
