My local Lexus dealer uses an escalator and charge walk-ins over the list price. Obviously, I buy anything that I need from Dan if I can get it but many parts are Lexus-only and sometimes Dan cannot get them.

Lexus-specific parts are not available to a Toyota dealer and vice-versa.

This part though is not a Lexus-specific part, correct, since 3 toyota dealers have it, and it must be in the 40th anniversiery LC right?

Correct.

Concerning my earlier observations the LX450 is a bit of an anomoly in that it appears that the data transfer from Japan has tagged much of that vehicle as a Land Cruiser and as such I have been able to order items that I should not have been able to. I keep meaning to call them and advise them of that oversite but I forget...;)

Walking Eagle:

Last summer I had the same problem on my 97 40th anniversary edition. Replacing the white "a/c amplifier" box fixed my problem. The corrosion in mine came from the infamous windshield leak. My local dealer was able to order the replacement part within a few days for ~$600. I was able to replace it in the dealers parking lot in about 10 minutes.

I was only able to identify the box after umpteen hours of hand-over-hand wiring tracing until I found this thing spliced into the main wiring harness. I beleive it is related to the automatic temp control on the 40th edition (and, I speculate here, on the LX).

Good Luck.

Latest Update

Last Tuesday, ordered part from junkyard - $125 shipped with 60 day guarantee.

Sunday, I had to drive the truck to haul my mower to mother-in-laws. Found it strangely encouraging that the dash control behaved exactly the same without the a/c amplifier hooked up as it did with it. Found it irritating to notice that the dealership had scratched the face on my radio. I'm not done with them yet by a long shot.

Monday night, come home to a box on the stoop. Pop it in, turn the key to on, push the buttons, and I have FAN! The control seems to be working correctly now, so I'm happy. Haven't run it to check the a/c but the a/c was never the problem it was always in the electronic controls (which I'm convincied it has too many). Didn't have time to completely put the dash together last night, so maybe I'll get to it tonight, and I'll try and snap a few photos of putting back together.

THEN - I'm writtting this up as a FAQ - as I know I'm not the only one who has had this problem, but there is no where on mud that it is easy to find the answer to this problem - I looked and looked, and asked and asked, and no-one seemed to know - so hopefully the next person can avoid this.

 CONGRATS

Thanks for keeping after this and TIA for writing up a FAQ :steer:

96 LX450

just found this thread thought I would add to it.
I have a AC gremlin that if I ever find I will kill.
My fresh/recirculate door keeps opening and closing when button is set to the recirculate position...stops when in the fresh position.
Over the past year I have replaced
1.the servo that opens and closes the door( as this seems to be the #1 culprit) No Good
2. AC amp behind glove box .... No Good
3. have switched out every other electrical part with my friends 97 40th No Good
4. replaced actual push button controls
5. Ordered the ac auto amp. 88650-60210/60212 today and waiting with my fingers crossed

Hope this makes it in some manner into the FAQ section as I could of used this info a year ago. :bang::bang:
