LOL Mad. You can continue to get your critical judgement 2nd hand. I'm already multiple EVs in, going on 10 yrs now. It's a gamechanger.

Sure, they have their limitations too, but with each passing generation and infrastructure additions, it's fading fast. Like the pig I own in the garage, I can plan ahead and around specifics. Actually, what I truly enjoy is that they work around me more than I have to work around it. Fuel runs no more. Maintenance is practically nil next to onerous oil, fluid, and complex ICE mechanicals. SMOG check, what's that? Performance and self driving, good lord you have no idea what you're missing.

I'm not ready to say they can replace my beloved pig. But they sure as well are on their way with some seriously interesting capabilities and additional competencies on the horizon. That's what this thread is about. The possibilities.

Will they measure up to the established Land Cruiser 300-series? Or perhaps the right question is will the 300-series measure up to them?

What I wrote is true tho, right? Call me when the limitations are minimized where I can go anywhere I want with minimal intrusion into my trip.

Did your EV have the top fly off the car while on highway? 😂

Tesla may not need much routine stuff but their quality of assembly is crap. And from what I hear, taking it to shop may make it worst!

what EV do you own now?

I don’t think an ev can ever replace the sound and vibration from the screaming mechanical bits of an engine working.

Our LC200 is so yesterday...Tesla can go into convertible mode instantly!

My brother was so happy that his Model Y ONLY had misaligned panels, and nothing fall off during initial inspection. He was so happy.

I am in no way pretending to be "Green" but those that drive EV's thinking they are on some sort of moral high ground and are instantly somehow better than the majority of us driving petrol wagons is silly. Understanding the impact of lithium mining on the environment and how nearly every single component on that Tesla/etc. is made up of petroleum based products and then somehow still believing that it's the greener option is laughable. Electric is most likely the future but the tech isn't there on a mass scale yet and the cost is still too high for anything with any half decent performance, size, range.

Gotta love the fanboys. I drove an X model and it was neat but the interior was cheap and stale. Nothing about it screams “excitement” for me anyways. Now the Taycan, that’s pretty sweet.

Don’t get me wrong... trying to get my wife to get a Model Y because her trip to work and back is all she needs. And that is perfect for an EV. Long trips, we will take the 200.

I'm a cybertruck fan to for its design/look. I've driven Model S ludicrous and was severely disapointed. No high end torque, steering was bland not sports car like, impossible to get in and out of. I love my 200 but feel super guilty about the air pollution. Somehow I can't imagine an EV with high end torque flying like a V8/V12 at 120-140 mph.

I think you are the first! Our Model 3 Performance left me giggling every time I drove it (often laughing hysterically actually), especially the time I lined up next to a Charger Hellcat at Bandimere and beat it by nearly a second in the quarter. Can't wait to see a Rivian or Cybertruck do that! :)

I had a mercedes s600 v12 twin turbo for 10 years. It felt like driving a rocket, model s is faster up to 100 mph but after that the benz was a missile where the S was turning snail like and would putter out. The S had amazing bottom end torque, make me nearly hurl going off the line at every stop light but no top end. After having a number of V12s top end speed/torque is intoxicating. I just hope cybertruck doesn't feel like it has no juice at 100mph.

EVs are great because it’ll save the petrol for people who actually like driving

The question is - when/where/how often (legally) are you able to drive 120-140mph? The vast majority of people will exceed 100mph in a car only a couple times in their lifetime, so the daily performance of acceleration from a stop and rolling acceleration between 20-80mph is far more relevant and important to most. In all of those tests, all of the performance model Teslas are supercar to hypercar fast. I love going fast as much as I love going slow on the rocks in Moab, but other than on a track, I think performance above ~130mph is largely irrelevant.

I had my Model 3 Performance in Irvine/Newport Beach for a while for work, and absolutely no one in any car wanted to race ever unless it was another EV (a Bolt nearly caught me off guard once 😆 ). I will never forget this one scenario where I was in the middle lane on a perfectly paved section of PCH at a long red light in 60mph speed limit zone. I'm first in line and a new BMW M6 and a Ferrari California pull up one one each side. I start salivating like a Saint Bernard thinking about the inevitable race, and I inch up and look over to see if they wanted to play. Light turns green and literally none of us moved  I didn't want to move until they did, and they absolutely refused to race a $50k Tesla because they know in the real world almost nothing under 7 figures has a chance.

As much as I think the Model 3 is one of the best cars ever made, I prefer the Land Cruiser because of the places it takes me and capability it offers. That is why the new breed of EV trucks and SUVs is so exciting because they offer even more performance and capability, and competition spurs innovation that benefits consumers and enthusiasts like us.

You're right. It comes no where near the raw and visceral high. It's an analogue missile with big ol snails. The feel, the sound, the smells.

The EV is satisfying in its own way. Even more so than one would imagine. With instant torque and no gears, there's no anticipating. It owns public roads in a way that even my Porsche cannot, unless I've premeditated with a ton of mechanical anger, noise, and boost.

Like @mcgaskins describes, I know better than the flex on Teslas. Unless I want to fully commit at which point I look like an idiot with 2-step on public roads. Even with 4WD, I'm not guaranteed a precision launch in the way Teslas can do in their sleep. On the street, it's always about the launch or jump, as there's not usually enough runway to real it back in. Well, unless we're already at speed on the highway.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around a vehicle that has Cruiser like capability, Porsche like performance, and next gen convenience. Too bad Toyota doesn't make anything near that.

I lived in California in the 90’s and Ford and General Electric has a lease program for a EV ranger ... Was a great truck besides being lead acid battery power but I drove that that truck for 3ys and it a was awesome , to big of a success .
I don’t see the Hummer EV being a huge seller , going to be really cool but I don’t see that being a dependable truck , GM has enough problems with there current line , and to drop 100k + on something that will have problems is a no go for me .

Sure, you can have ALL that and maybe more (like playing PONG while car self-drives).........yet still be constrained to traveling around big cities and always limit yourself to within range of a supercharger.

For example, my brother Model Y cannot go on a trip with us to Big Bend National Park because no supercharger around Big Bend. There is one destination charger there outside BBNP but it is in RV park...good luck finding a place there! And the super chargers are too scattered along the way...so, it would take HOURS longer just to get near there!

I see the current crop of EVs as like a big bad bull dog that is tough as hell but is on a leash and is tied down to only his yard to act tough. Sure, us piglets cannot compete in that yard.......but us piglets can roam the neighborhood and even enjoy the stroll down to the sandy beach. (And we know that if a rock hits our bottom, then we won’t have to pay $16,000+ to repair.)

I’m all in on EV Technology, I have a huge problem with blended Ethanol in gasoline , Government mandates my new land Cruiser to get a specific MPG , they print it on the new car manufacture window sticker , then they test with non ethanol to hit the MPG the EPA sets , then the Government partners with Ethanol for gas and when you buy the DC Blended Ethanol Swamp gas for my New Truck can never hit the MPG .
Talk about class action law suit .
I really like Diesel , but EV is right up there , its just in its infancy .
My new LC has a great motor , I plan on keeping forever ... LOL I could see a EV conversion or Diesel in 10 or 15yrs , by that time gas will be 100% Ethanol and 8 dollars a gallon ...LOL

What's crazy is all these new-fangled automobiles with these complicated internal combustion engines. Where are you supposed to fill up your tank without a network of filling stations? Where are you supposed to drive so fast on these bumpy dirt roads? I can pull my horse to the side so it can eat and drink and my big buggy wheels handle rough roads just fine. Automobiles and internal combustion engines? No thanks to this passing fad! It's buggy whips for me!
