So yesterday afternoon I thought I would be productive and move some stuff around in the garage before I got busy turning wrenches. In doing so, I found a myriad of coffee cups and pint glasses. I brought them all back into the kitchen.

The boy kid did his after dinner chores and tossed them all in the dishwasher. About 15 minutes later the entire kitchen started to smell pretty flamable. I'm like "holy ****! did you dump some paint thinner down the drain?"

I run around searching for some solvent someplace. Nothing tipped over in the garage, nothing broken. WTF? My horrible logic brain concludes it must be some city water line backup and contamination. I go over to the neighbors house and ask if they are smelling mineral spirits coming from their drains. They are like, "no." I even turn on my radio scanner and listen to see if some guys are working on the water by my house.

I check my other drains, and no smell. Then...i recall the armload of glasses and cups I brought in. Um yeah...it all clicked. One of the cups was used as a parts bath. I remember I even had it set in that spot on my tool bench where I was sure I wouldn't accidently take a swill of it. Well that was a couple weeks back. That small detail failed my memory when I was doing my good deed returning all of momma's dishes. That ****er got tossed right in with the dinner dishes.

So after running the dishwasher 6 times today and cleaning it out, it is finally smelling odor free. I was about to ask if I could just turn the dishwasher into a permanent parts bath.:o

Wow, my wife would be so pissed on that one.

A brilliant way to recycle though

You'd have to come up with some reasonably mild solvent (dishsoap?) and be careful about the discharge of the water afterwards, but the idea of having a "Parts Dishwasher" in the garage if you are doing a engine rebuild sounds like it could be interesting.

hubby once put an exhaust manifold in the dishwasher :hillbilly:

the dishwasher was slated for replacement anyway :meh:

there were carburetor parts in the kitchen sink an Saturday ;p

If you ever end up with an engine assembly in your bathtub, expect a visit from Jeff Foxworthy :hillbilly::wrench::hillbilly:
