I dont know about a lot of you guys but I am dissappointed. It looks exactly the same as the pics we've had for 2 years. To curvy and stretched out. And whats with the long 4 runner wheel base only 4 inches shorter thats hardly anything. The only thing I saw or heard that I liked was the locking rear. They need some serious restyling. I could go on for a while but I'll just quit and go work on my cruiser in the garage instead.
My 2 cents

I liked it, the approach/departure angles look good and with the longer wheelbase it should be extremely stable off road. The straight windshield, the front bezel, the white roof, and the wrap around windows look pretty cool to me. I like the idea of a 6 speed manual t-case, which should give some pretty good gearing options. The rear locker, very nice, I wish it was a solid axle. I also like the idea that it has a rubberized interior, easy to clean.

Yea it is not a 40, and I will always have my 40 series, but I thought they did a great job of integrating what they could from a 30 year old look and put it on a capable chassie with a good drive train. Yea a straight 6 and solid front axle would have been on my list, but at least they thought of the offroader when they built it. I was just afraid it was going to be another RAV4.

Wonder how long until OME is available? I wonder if the 4 runner lifts will work on it.

still in concept form in my opinion. I can't help but think they will change the lines before actual production...but what the hell do I know

Did everyone expect a jeep to come rolling out?

It'll change some, they always do. I am interested to see what they actually do with the interior.

I wonder how much of the concept will actually be options vs. standard equipment. They should make that locker standard.

I am in the total dissappointment column. I had read that they we going to fix the ugly *** b pilllar and the top was going to be removeable. I like that they at least used the Tacoma/4Runner for the underpinning so that it will at least be off roadable but overall I think it's a turd. Ill stick to my 40 and my 80, If I need a new toyota 4wd Ill by a Taco. Go everywhere that hunk of crap will go an probably cost 80% of the "FJ Crapper".

Would have been nice to see something that more resembled the FJ40 for sure.... Something more like a 75 series troopie or something.

Anything but that piece of crap. What a joke.

Toyota is going after the poser-ass wannabe 20-something crowd. Good f'n luck you dorks. What a waste of time.

If they were going after the 20 something crowd, this would be a Scion.

Let me just restate my point seems that people took it to mean I hate the whole thing. I just hate the styling. It looks like s***. The lines are horrible I could take any car and paint the roof white and ad wrap around windows and a bezel and call it a cruiser but if I was gonna call it a cruiser I'd make it look like one. It needs some nice big fender up from it needs to be shorter and that huge space between the drivers window and wrap around needs to be dealt with. Just cause its a new model doesnt mean you have to try and make it look all new Jeeps have looked the same for 40 damn years and they still sell a ton of them. Why not the cruiser?

If you guys want a 4wd truck with no lockers, a underpowered 6cyl, no A/C, rusty fenders, 4 wheel drum "brakes", and a finnicky carb, I know where you can get an FJ40 for a couple grand :D
Seriously though, I love the older Cruisers, but Toyota won't be going back in time. The FJ is not a replacement or replica of an FJ40, I don't think it was supposed to be. It is a functional, (relatively) reasonably priced 4wd utility vehicle. :)
Keep your FJ40, this new model won't replicate it, but it could be a fun new vehicle with some potential all its own :)

ding-ding we have a winner! Exactly-Jeep has used the same basic platform and sells about 56,000 units per year. Should have paid more homage to the FJ40, on the same platform and I think the sales response would have been far greater long term than this will be. Without some serious changes I don't see this truck having a long term future in the toyota lineup. JMHO.

What a horrible bastardization of the FJ namesake, name plate, heritage, etc....

So Toyota mated a 4Runner with a Honda Element and decided to throw a Cruiser Bezel on it to appeal to the Cruiser Crowd...

Toyota is officially prostituting the FJ name with a POS mall-crawler.... Not even a convertable? They have officially lost their minds.

I'm getting clausterphobic just looking at it. The tiny windows and the huge blind spot don't appeal to me. I'm fine with IFS and the platform has proven to be capable. I have to agree that Toyota is the obvious choice to compete with the Wrangler. Those over-priced Jeeps are all over the place here in Colorado. A modern, simple, short wheelbase, open-top, 40 styled, FJ to compete with the Wrangler seems like it would be a hit. For $25,000 You can build one heck of an FZJ80.

But that's just it - not everyone likes the retro look, or the look alike thing. Take the new Mustang, for instance. If I wanted a 68 fastback, I'd get a 68 fastback - not the new thing. People that drive Land Cruisers aren't out to be looking like everyone else - and if you look at the marketplace, there's a good 10% that feel the same way.

If I wanted something that looked like a Jeep, why wouldn't I just drive a Jeep?

This FJ is way different than a lot of stuff out there. It's not going to have the appeal as say, a Jeep Wrangler, but thank God for that. If I buy a new vehicle, I don't want to loose it in a parking lot, or have another one just like it parked next to it somewhere. I want the damn thing to appeal to me, and what appeals to me doens't appeal to 90% of the other people out there. make sense? It's not a mass market thing, IMO. Too many companies shoot for the mass market and look what they get into...Chevy Cavaliers, Ford Escorts, etc. It goes bland...and that 10% is always marginalized (and it's a huge segment of buyers these days...)
