I posted this question in the tire and wheel tech section and got 65 views and zero feedback. So, rather than take silence as tacit approval, I am reposting here in hopes of getting an answer to my question.I have a pair of Spidertrax hub-centric (with the machined hub centric lip) 1.25" wheel spacers and to fit my new 17" 4.5" BS wheels with 37x12.5 Rockers on my SOA FJ40 with FJ80 PS. I know they won't fit on the front due to the machined hub lip not clearing the front hub (I have lug centric spacers for the front). However, they seem to mount to the rear axle just like the lug-centric spacers with the same tapered lug nut. I have a semi floating rear with disk brakes.

My question is, does anyone see an issue with running these on the rear axle assuming the wheel hub bore is big enough to clear the machined lip (which it is)?

As far as 'running' the spacers on the rear axle, I don't see a problem. Though my axle is different (I have an FJ40 rear axle with a Detroit Locker) I am running the 1.5 Spidertrax spacers while I build up a new rear axle to match my widened front axle. They have a Rubicon and Fordyce trip on them with no problems. However, I still want to replace them with a wider rear axle ;).

I think the tapered nuts will keep it centered, but they're supposed to seat to a matching-tapered hole in the rim. Do the spacers have tapered holes? When you say they fit over the hubs, does it fit tightly over the hub, keeping it centered as designed?

Yes, the nuts and seats are tapered just like the lug centric ones. The rim is lug centric as well. I think I understand that the hub centric spacer is identical to the lug centric spacer with the exception of the machined lip. I may have answered my own question and it seems logical that in absence of a hub lip on the actual vehicle axle the spacer will act just like a lug centric spacer.

Will not running spacers and having the rear tires 2.75" narrower than the front be a problem?
