I have a working 8274, but the winch seems to draw way, way more power than it should even under no load. Anyone know how many amps it should be pulling? Can I just take it down to NAPA and have them hook it up to their starter tester? I know how to jumper one so that's not an issue.

I'm going to be pulling the winch and doing a rebuild/checking all the bearings. I already have the lower housing rebuild kit and I'll be using Flintnapper's rebuild thread.

Thanks,
Brittain

Log onto Warn Website. They publish the specs for the winches. It sounds to me like your contactor/solenoid pack is wearing out. Do you have an Auto Marine Electric shop close by? They are where I go to get electrical stuff checked, Good luck,

Well I pulled it apart and it all makes sense now

More pics will be posted in my rebuild thread.

However can I safely remove the corrosion from the windings?
