You did i real good job. Nice write up. I just lock mine in the glove box. Sometimes i start my LC & i got to turn it off cause i have to turn the trck off and open the box to close the garage door. I may have to do what you did.

This is a great mod and a great write up. I can't park my 80 in the garage, but I still go through the garage most days so I am definitely looking into doing this.

I just did this mod and it works great. My wife is always thinking someone is going to steal our opener and now she can't keep reminding me to hide it. Well worth the time and effort.

Second topic in a row I ask for assistance.

I took apart my garage door opener enclosure and this is the circuit board I revealed:

I have a couple of questions though.

As you can see, it employs the use of a 12V battery. Does this mean that I can remove it and power the board directly from the vehicle's power source? Will it fry the board or do I have to place a fuse somewhere to take care of potentially damaging excessive loads?

If this is feasible, it would negate the limited range issue if placed under the dash not to mention the replacement of the battery every once in a while.

P.S. (coded message to the topic creator): switch-relabel-park-sensor-switch-relabel-park-sensor :p

Yeah that is nice. I wish my opener was 12v so I could direct wire it. Yeah yeah I need to get the labels going I know.

So not sure what died. If it was the remote itself (which was moved to the front of the truck) or just the battery or the connection. But something died that I need to figure out what happened. I need my garage door opener back. Its been awhile and I forgot about it til I started re-reading my threads to update them. Ugh.

Well the remote has officially died. Time to tear into it and start off with a new board. I may make a more robust housing this go around.

You just need to upgrade to an autodim mirror with homelink buttons. Save your switch slots for other pressing needs.

Couldn't agree more. That will be next I think. Looks like a pretty straight forward install and since I have a flatscreen that can do rear view I don't need the screen in the mirror.

Sorry to hear that. I was going to do this mod until I found an app that uses a bluetooth headset wired to the opener. Downloaded the app and has worked great for a couple of years. I'm sure you've seen them.

Yeah. I wasn't going to bother until this crapped out. Well, it happened. I'm going to go with the rear view mirror with HomeLink

I loved this mod. It lasted you a long time for sure. Good luck with the new!

It is always hot which some people don't like. I've had a few vehicles come with it always hot from the factory so I didn't think twice about it. If you always park in the garage it really is no concern. Even if you don't, if they broke into your truck to press the button then I doubt they would've had any qualms about breaking into your house.

My cheap remote is still kicking after this mod. I have replaced the battery twice.
