I'm getting about 11mpg. I read on here about people firing up cruisers after three years getting 14-16mpg and dunno how to do it..

Is there a way? I'm running 31's.. Headers, pretty stock I think.

I think it may be rich. I smell exhaust/fuel at startup and periodically while running it.. I dunno how to work on carbed engines though.. :whoops:

Tune your engine properly...timing, valves, carb adjusted. Check for vacuum leaks and a number of other things that others will mention will help I'm sure. MPG isn't something you should worry about though. Most people will tell you to just get a prius or something.

I have an F350 diesel that I converted to burn Veggie oil. which has saved me TONS of $$ traveling, and not really how well my mileage was cause I didn't care any more as long as I have oil. lol but I can say I Drive a Hybrid and people have a funny expression when I tell them what I have. lol

i know nothing to do with your issue, just thought I would share. i am new to the FJ40 in my garage and am wondering how it will treat me once I start driving it on Mileage. hmmm

maybe i wont sell the truck just in case. lol

Keep your foot out of the floorboard...

Seriously, you are rarely going to get over 14-15mpg, no matter what you do to it, unless you go with a TBI setup

mpg

Park it the garage and just stare at it.:grinpimp:

but your really breaking the law......you're not paying highway tax, much like buying dyed deisel.

just sayin'

I was going to suggesting towing it behind a diesel...

yep, a properly tuned and balanced engine will help, free flowing exhaust, and efficiently tuned carb. 3.73 R&P might help a little but with the awesome brick-like aerodynamics it won't help a lot and the off-road ability is going to be compromised..

I talked to a guy who swears by his Hydrogen generator and that he gets 28 vs. 22 in his datsun truck... I don't know but hey- he likes it.

damn....now Im not going to be able to sleep at night :flipoff2:the law, you really think that money goes back into the highways

not to start a pissing match of friendly banter back and forth, but "Ok yeah so" but I am also burning waste that has to go somwhere. this i my statement of being "green" :steer: and snobbing with the claim I drive a Hybrid that can carry and tow a lot more than those speed bumps I mean prius things that have speed pedal issues.

I selling it for some one else to break the law so if that makes everybody feel better.

nothing is agesnt the law un less you get found out. change to all syn oils. better air flow, webber carb will help a bit, efi will be best, dui distrubutor or some thing that will give you more spark power.

people that are getting that kind of mpg with their 2F are the ones who will always lie to you in life... or they dont know how to truly figure mpg. I wish I was getting what you are now...

Don't be dissing Geo Metros...:hillbilly:

Stab the 2f into a geo metro. The lack of weight and added aerodynamics should net 15mpg easy.

I couldn't help but laugh a little at that.
Someone mentioned that those claiming those numbers aren't very good at figuring it out or are misleading intentionally.

A good tune up is your best bet.

Pssst, stay away from the "tornado".
