Looking at buying a used 93-97 FZJ80. Been reading lots of posts with great info on stuff to look out for. My problem is there isnt' alot to choose from in CA so I have been checking EBay, AutoTrader, Pirate4x4, and here. What is the easiest way to see if I'm looking at a Federal 80 or a CA 80? Anyone have any experience on having other states check a CA 80 for CA emissions before purchasing? Thanks for any and all info.

94 up are 50 states emissions vehicles. 93 is the only year that had California and Federal systems.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of that, like a lot of 80 stuff. All my experience was with toyota mini trucks & 4runners and I have a lot to learn about the 80's. Again, thanks!

What would I look for on a 93?

see if it has an egr temp sensor
check carfax original state registration

Simon is correct.

California 93's have an EGR temp sensor in the intake plenum. They will also have a label on the underside of the original hood stating compliance with California emissions.

My 80 came from CA. It was owned by somebody with the last name of Coors.
It would up in CO. Hmm.

Are there any particular problems with the CA trucks?

I haven't had any. I was just curious because I don't have to pass any where I live now.
