How to get a diesel freak and an anti 1FZFE freak in the same place?

Great thread, Ali. Glad I could read it from beginning to end in one sitting instead of the real-time drawn-out version. Never heard of either a broken sprocket tooth or loose freeze plug in the head on a 1FZE before, so I think you've paid all your dues for a long time now.

You're welcome and yeah, I hope so! It's definitely more fun to work on a Subaru engine than a 1FZFE :D

i highly recommend it...

Whatcha talkin about Willis! Is someone now an ex-texan?

There's is nothing me and my:princess: would love to do more than move, SA is beyond loathing to us. All there is to do here is eat, drink and melt in the summer. The evening breeze that comes over the mountains there is something i would never grow tired of. Colorado has been in our sites now since our trip, we absolutely feel in love there but northern NM is a close runner up. For me work will be a deciding factor if we do move. That was longer than i wanted, back to Ali's awesome right up...when i do my head/cams job I want you here buddy:cheers:

Bump.

All I have to say is that the one picture in this thread does no justice on how difficult it is to mate the engine to the transmission, especially with the long 1FZ and considering that it is a friggin boat anchor.

I suspect this is the case with most big engines.....

Yup, it's that damn torque converter that kills you if it isn't seated fully into the transmission. That long engine can be a bear to deal with at times if you don't have an extra set of hands.

I have the engine out and the transmission out ('94) and am contemplating the process of putting them back (they came out separately). Should they go in together or not? I would prefer to leave the AC alone, but am willing to take the condenser out if that's what it takes. Taking the engine out by itself was straightforward except for the transmission cooler lines.

Any advice would be welcome...

I've never done this but it sounds like putting the engine+tranny back into the vehicle as a single unit is a good idea. Wrestling with the transmission by itself can be a PITA as you probably found out during the removal phase.

I think if you lay the A/C condenser flat, you should be able to stab the whole shoot and match back into the vehicle. This way, the A/C system can remain intact.

Send me a PM if you have any more questions.
