New to me LX470 had a missing ignition coil boot. Apparently for a while because you can see from the pic that there was no seal around the opening. Dirt and nastiness all up and down that thing. Can the tube be cleaned or replaced?

Car was not showing any trouble codes.

(The good news is that putting a coil with boot seems to have fixed the gas odor coming from the engine, as you would imagine from such a condition).

I would keep the spark plug seated to ensure no dirt gone into the engine. Then just use rags wrapped with some long extension to clean it. Then use some break cleaner in the same extension a couple of time. After that use a long nose air gun to take all the dirt out of the hole.

I would do the whole procedure 2-3 times until it get clean. Imho it doesn't need to be "eat on it clean". Use that air hose often to ensure you take all the debris out.

Thanks for the suggestions. It makes sense to me.

Also just to note the spark plug tube itself is pressed into the head of the engine so replacing it is not a simple task.
