Was just curious about what opinions are on oil changes in a diesel 2h hj75 that has now been turbocharged for the last 12,000 k's.
Its a mitsubishi low pressure turbocharger oil cooled Diesel Turbo Systems (DTS) brand kit, It is just what I wanted for extra hp :) and improved my fuel economy. In the standard 2h manual an oil change is recommended every 5,000 and filter every 10,000. I usually stick to that but change the filter every 5 also. My thoughts behind that is that the fuel timing is now advanced to suit boost pressure meaning i am burning more fuel... especially under load/boost pressure=dirtier than standard oil/lower viscosity at the end of every 5,000. Also the fuel filter... how often do you guys/gals change yours...every 20,000 or more regularly?? :hhmm: any opinions on the subject, Thanks.

I think 5000 klms oil changes are overkill ,I stretch mine to 6000klm;) usually.
Fuel filter yearly.

Did you advance the timing or did a shop do it and how much is it advanced?

oil has been discussed to death, do a search
fuel, once a year unless you get a tank of bad fuel
turbo's do not increase fuel mileage, your fuel economy should stay the same but most report using more after the turbo install since they enjoy the power more.

Yes a shop called Roo systems dynotuned it here in Brisbane for me and got it to 75 bhp at rear wheels. I'm not sure how much it was advanced by? The graph is somewhere in one of the cupboards at home?

I was taught by my old man to do the filter every time you do the oil - he's a diesel fitter by trade. He also said do it every 5000km.

Any reason why Toyota would suggest otherwise?

Toyota diesels use to have longer intervals but when the 78/79 series come in they revised them downwards(in oz).
The gearbox/transfer/diffs went from 30000 to 25000klms,the engine went down to but I forget the details.
