How NOT to use body filler

I don't know who made those patch panel quarters, nor do I really care. They were a set that the boss said to use. I don't want to bash anyone's product or name, but they should be ashamed of how poorly their panels are made, and the Landcruiser owners shouldn't be forced to purchase parts that don't fit. The result is a bad fit, and more time spent on metalwork and paint/body to get them to look right. I just know that they suck and I hope next time we go with another company who knows how to STAMP a set of panels rather than beat them over a jig with a hammer.

I know this... in the hot rod industry, the owners and fabricators of companies that vend to the builder pay careful attention to what others are saying about their product. The look and they listen, then they improve. Take EMS for example, a builder of high-quality sheetmetal panels and replacement body parts for the classic car industry. They frequently post threads on hot rodding forums asking what new patch panels and pieces they should make. They actually want to know what you want them to make! This is something not normally seen anymore. They are catering to us, the builders, the hobbyist, the restorers, the fabricators, the hot rodders. I hope this carries over into the FJ world of aftermarket parts. These companies need to be open to produce the parts that we demand. We need more options than what they offer. They need to be more like Burger King..."have it your way".

Ahh, my rant is done. Back to sleep.

Jeez, that's crazy. People do some dumb stuff with Bondo sometimes, must be the fumes. The day after I brought my 40 home, I was washing the mud off the undercarriage, I wasn't even using a power-washer, just a garden sprayer, and when I got to the rear sill, I discovered a crappy bondo job that was literally plastered over mud! As soon as the mud got wet, the bondo flaked right off and left me with rust-craters I could put my hands through.

fortunatly, in the landcruiser community most vendors come on here and do just that as Joeyg1973 pointed out and there are many more, if you do a search on just about anything your looking for on these old cruisers, there is probably a mudder here who is producing a great product that would further help anyone tackling a resto or a build up for their truck.

There are also people that become "brand loyal" regardless of quality. That is when it is hard to tell if someone is honestly reporting feedback or just being nice to the vendor/company because they got them a great deal on a set of rocker panels for example.

I personally would appriciate knowing who you delt with as i know lots of others here would also. Obviously you are not bashing the company but it is nice to be up front and let others know so they can avoid the hassle in the future.
