I'm getting ready to replace my exhaust, which I'm pretty sure is original. I know the OE cats had high levels of platinum and are worth some $$$ when recycled. I'm considering having the work done and I'm wondering how much recycling those cats might offset the cost of labor? If you've recycled your cats in the last year or two, how much did you get for them?

$45-60/each here.

I'm about to do the same thing. Did you have to separate the platinum from the cat or did you just take the whole thing in?

Just took the whole thing in but had to provide VIN for paperwork to help prove not stolen.

I had to go down to the county office and get a permit, free. I get about $90 a pair here. Aftermarket cats are worth nothing.

The price has dropped so much in last couple years. About two years ago I scraped my two cats from my 89 supra and got 180$ for the pair. I was hoping to offset my cost also when I put new cat on truck.

good to know. I've had my og cats sitting on the floor in my shop since 2 weeks after I bought the rig. They will be going for scrap next week!

Where do you sell them.

Pretty sure this is illegal in CO.

You mean selling your old cats?

Up here it's a nod to the eviromentalists to take your dead ones to a scrap metal dealer (aside from the good $$ you get) - up here as long as you look like you own the car, they'll buy your old one (but I've only ever had 2-3 with me).

Selling any used cat, AFAIK.

You can sell them on eBay as scrap. If you mention Toyota it will get flagged and removed. Just search scrap platinum & platinum catalytic convertor on eBay and copy one of their ads. Then cut them down to fit in a usps flat rate box to ship. It's not illegal to sell scrap, it's illegal to sell cats to be reused.

I've sold probably 10 cats out of scrap cars over the years on eBay, was always better $ than local $ for me.
