How Many Turns on the Torsion Bars? To Level

I remember on my 98 Model, I found a thread, like turn 5 full turns or 8 turns, and that is as much as you want to do.

I have searched and searched that old thread, it would have been back in 05 or So...

Non the less, I just installed the ARB on my 99 Model, and it looks like I am just going to do a endo any moment. No winch installed, and yes I will be getting the OME T Bars before doing that.. Oh and yes I know, cranking bars causes pre mature wear etc etc etc...

Yes I know just turn and play with it, and measure... But I remember something simple like... turn X times.
 
I don't remember using a set number of turns. I just kept turning it until I had 2"+ over my initial height.

Depending upon how the Torsion Bars were made (relative to splines being rolled into the bar) one side may adjust differently than the other, but not by more than one full turn. Measuring from top of wheel to bottom lip of fender is still the best method because that is a metel-to-metal fix that does not have to take into consideration tire O.D./tire wear or flatness of the ground.
 
Eleven to the right, two back to the left, one right and ten back to the left ought to put you right there.

I think you might have to be more specific on the lift amount. What springs and did you use any spacers in the rear?

Stock Setup.. and as far as measuring... I should have said, yep that is only a given too...
Just curious before I start turning, if there was a set number.

I will be sure to mark and count... That way someone will have a clue based on just turns.

Every spring and initial factory setting is different. They are adjustable for spring variation and changes, not so we can lift the truck. Some have been able to just crank to their desired height others have needed to re-index the bars.

Thanks and I do agree, but once again. I understand that, but yet like with anything, there is a Common Thread of similiar heights or specs from Factory... Yes one guy could have turned a 8th more than he should etc and so on... Plus you throw in Weight, has my Cruiser once had 350 Plus People driving and riding in it. Did it pull a 36 Foot Sea Ray, all its life etc and so on...

So in the end this weekend, I will post up how many Turns it took to get to the Center of ??? Wait no that is something else... How many Turns to get semi levelish..

Hey guys, anything I need to know about cranking on torsion bars before I attempt to level my '99 UZJ100 myself? (I've never done it before) How much can I raise the front end by cranking on the torsion bars without creating any problems? It is completely stock. Eventually I to install the OME torsion bars, shocks, and rear springs, but until then, I want it as level as I can get it.

I just did mine last weekend. My truck was sitting lower in the left front than the right, so I measured all 4 wheels and then marked the bolts before cranking. I ended up doing about 8 full turns on the left and 5 on the right to level it, about 1+ inch higher. Mind you, the lift looked higher when I set the truck back on the ground, but after driving a few miles it settled well.

Before I attempted to turn the bolts, I sprayed wd40 on the threads of the bolts (up where you can't see them in the frame). Mine turned very easily, even without jacking the truck.

Thanks for the response guys... I will try it out tomorrow. I did my "before" measurements tonight and I am about 1/4" low on the left side as well. Thanks.
 
Okay, will turning both DS and PS Torsion bolts clockwise raise the front or lower the front? Also, do you want the front to be the same height as the rear or do you want the front to be say, an inch or two lower than the rear?
 
for a 2" lift upfront mine it was:

8 Driver
6 Passenger

With the passenger side out of threads completely and the driver side with about 3 full turns left in it. Both sides are level with each other, and did not have to lift the front wheels. Just took a long armed ratchet and went under and started cranking, drove around the block came back, and measured up and adjusted some more. Took me 30 minutes.
 
If you are concerned with life of CV's you will want to understand droop, think a minimum of 2" is required. Been covered a number times here.
