Where do I find the ECU?

How do I put a 88' FJ62 ECU in Diagnostic Mode?

What page in the FSM are the ECU codes and how do I read them? The scanned version I have doesn't have an index and it's impossible to find anything.

Thanks!

Piece of cake. I don't have my book handy, but you take a small piece of wire and insert each end into one of the terminals located within a small black plastic box on the passenger side firewall inside the engine compartment.

You then turn the key to on, don't start, and count the flashes to get your codes.

Did you try searching here for directions?

Use a jumper wire to short out terminals E1 and TE1 in the box found mounted on the passenger firewall under the hood. The CEL will them blink corresponding to the codes stored. Or it will blink continuously at the same rate which means no codes. Good luck.

The instructions say to ensure that the "Throttle valve is fully closed (throttle position sensor IDL points closed)" - See below

Where is the throttle valve and how do I ensure it's closed?

=============

To obtain an output of diagnostic codes, proceed as follow:
1. Initial conditions
(a) Battery voltage 11 volts or more
(b) Throttle valve fully closed (throttle position sensor
IDL points closed)
(c) Transmission in neutral position
(d) Accessories switched OFF
(e) Engine at reach normal operating temperature
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Do not start the engine.
3. Using a service wire, short terminals TE1 and E1 of the
check connector.

This would mean your truck is not running...don't worry about it...just jump the terminals with your truck off, turn your key to on, and read your codes...then you can worry about what's wrong!

Basically saying that your foot is off the gas pedal so the throttle valve (the flapper in the throttle body) is closed. Don;t worry about it, just jump TE1 & E1 and watch the check engine light for the codes.

Disconnect the battery. Not sure how long is needed, but I'm sure a few minutes would be more than enough.

My check engine light flashes continuously.
FJ62 any suggestions?
I know this is an older post. I have bought idling myself and just checked my codes. Continuous flashing which seems to suggest no codes.

This is what I came here for. Did you find anything? My issue is stuttering when in gear.

My shop cleaned the throttle body, removed idle air control valve, cleaned and reinstalled, checked resistance of the TPS, checked fuel pressure at cold start injector that was low, replaced fuel pump, filter and regulator. Unfortunately, there is so many things that it could be. It runs great now.
