Man, I just had my carb rebuilt last month and it came back looking brand spanking new from top to bottom. I literally stared at it for days before install it was so freaking gorgeous. So much so that I'm pulling the head to dig further into the repair of my motor rather than give up and do a Vortec swap, I fell in love all over again with the 2F. I also got a really nice personalized note from Marlin (the legend) himself who rebuilt it for me. I payed in the same ball park as you did and certainly feel I got my monies worth. It also ran great with the new carb (despite cylinder 5 not firing) Hence me tearing into the head.

Here are a couple pics of before and after. And the note from Marlin. That was bar far the coolest part. Besides the work being extremely well done.

Yeah, mine looked nothing like that afterwards.

I (as a trade qualified motor mechanic) used to work at 'Autocarbs' where we would acid bath all components of the carburettor, before fitting kits, repairs etc. to me - that was not done Ie: dirty screws etc ? Did they show you old parts/ kit that was replaced ? Mmm
