How are those winter projects coming?

I'm actually in the middle of a project but it pales in comparison to what you guys do. [/QUOTE said:
I hear that- my 40 hasn't even been off road yet (while in my possession!)...

I took the top and doors off (first time for the truck, I believe)
Installed a roll bar- donated by Weedhopper- Thanks Man!
New radiator
Fab'd a tailgate (if you can call it that- it's plywood...)

and probably the coolest part- I 'set up' a 'shop' in the garage... Christmas lights are still up though-

Check it out:

looks good! the 80s are kind of boring in the sense that it's more accessorizing the truck than really building it. Like adding on board air, bumpers, winches, stuff like that. The guys who have done things like 3 link the front seems to find themselves selling the truck soon after for whatever reason.

Far as the sway bar links are concerned what style are they? If I remember right they are a tie rod design right?

I would suspect that the suspension is flexing past the range of motion the links have to offer. If you beef up the link body when the link end is binding then you will most likely rip off the bracket.

Finished Stage 1 mods this weekend

Installed Old Man Emu w/ 275/70/18 Mickey Thompson ATZs. The Craftsman Spring compressor does not fit the OME springs; however, Sears only charged $35 to swap the top plate to the new struts.

That looks great. How's the ride? The :princess: DD is an 07 FJC - stock tires, suspension, etc... to say the least- the tires SUCK.

Nice mods.

Jamie.

I only put about 10 miles on the new suspension today. Went to all the worst pot holes and frost heaves I could find. Suspension is still great with the bumps and dips, but no longer has that mushy car feeling and body roll. Still playing with tire pressures. Lift came out higher than I expected. 40 inches all around at center of wheel wells. Our FJC is wife's daily driver so now she needs a step.

The 40's body is out to media blast as I type this... hope to get 'er back and have it painted in the next couple weeks :fingerscrossed:

Been ripping out a rear bumper/tire& hi-lift carrier too, would have finished the fawker had I not run outa gas for the mig this evening. Its got some nice 3/4in d-ring loops, 2in reciever in probly the sleekest, smallest bumper of this type I have ever built. I am accualy surprised how well its come out because usualy the stuff I build for myself comes out like rushed dog-crap.

So I have been using some NAPA spray paint mixed up in individual cans. After the 2nd batch of cans and basically the rear doors, hardtop and rear quarters done.

The 2 batches are off from one another!! The doors turned out lighter than the rest :crybaby:

So the Napa manager is gonna sport me some new cans so I can go over it all again....

Can't wait till this is done. So I can pull off my manifold to swap out the gasket.

Should have it all done by the time the Mud breaks...

Found my project for next winter. Just bought it today. Sweet deal on it. I no longer have to be jealous of another certain YT member.:bounce:

nice...

(40 plus 45= 85), So is that an 85 series?

It's in AU. Should take till July to get here. It has a Holden 253 V-8...that might be problem long term for parts sourcing so might switch to a chevy 350. Guess I can get a few oil filters and some new plugs, etc before it leaves AU.

Technically I guess it's a VJ85 LWB

:hhmm:......Congrats......Interesting to have them both at the FG. If this one's a keeper, change your signature.

Told you I tried buying yours before you did.......

This one popped up today and I grabbed it.

and, define "keeper"........not sure I know what that means. Is it English?

I wonder if that's the same block as the Chevy 267 V8. If it is, it won't be a big problem.

That looks great John! I wouldn't get your hopes up HJ-45, the FG is a longggg ways away in flipper time....
