The hood and lift gate struts on my 2000 LC are slowly biting the dust. I had to use a stick to prop the hood up the other day after it about took my head off. I guess I need to replace them. Nothing more annoying than a hood or lift gate that wont stay open. Any recommendations on where to buy? Toyota, Amazon, local parts store, random website? Thanks!

I've bought OEM Toyota, StrongArm and a couple others. One thing I noticed: OEM Toyota units, as expensive as they are, have a rubber bump stop so when they extend they don't clunk. Yeah I know: Expensive silencer :D

And cold weather (< ~ freezing) seems to make the knockoffs lift slowly whereas the OEM Toyota units work well in most any condition up to the end of their life/pressure.

I bought both off Amazon, I have had zero issues with them. Make sure you read the reviews to see if they fit before purchasing. I did both my 80 and 100, and wondered why I didn't do it sooner. Spent years propping the hood up with a broom stick.

Bought from McMaster-Carr for my FJ62 few years back, lots of ordering options meant I could get slightly stronger ones than OEM and wow was it nice... would recommend reviewing their options in your search

Thought some might be interested in this deal. Replaced them five years ago and the hood hit me in the head last week and it hurt.

Two Strongarm hood hydraulic lifts for under $35.00 delivered. I bought them and they work very well.

No, I don't have stock in this company just wanted others to be able to take advantage of this cheap price for good lifts. Wish others would offer alerts when finding bargains.

Amazon.com: Qty (2) StrongArm 4361 Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus LX470 1998 To 2004 Hood Lift Supports, Struts, Shocks Cylinders: Automotive

99 100 Series named "Henry".

I bought a pair of StrongArm 4361 lifts from MrLousStuff (ebay) in May of 2014 They've been "sinking" for about the last month or so, and just replaced them today with another, actually cheaper, brand from Amazon with non-detachable ball joints. The StrongArms didn't quite last 4 years. I decided not to take them up on their "limited lifetime warranty" because they want $9.88 plus my cost to pack & ship back the old pair. That's almost equal to the cost of my new replacements. Hopefully, these last a bit longer. So far, so good--very strong lift.
I also replaced the rear window lift gate pair with StrongArms around the same time as the hood lifts. The rear set still works, but can only open up to about 80%, then I have to push the gate up the rest of the way and hold it there if I need it all the way up. Not a big deal. Yet. I guess I'll give the new ones a chance to prove themselves before jumping in on getting a new set of the cheapies for the back.

I am on my 3rd set of hood lifts since 2009. First set was from Checker and lasted a few years. Second set I got Strong Arm and those lasted less than a year. I just ordered a set of Monroes (Part # 901658) from Rock Auto. So far they feel the strongest of the three (as far as lift assist).

I replace my amazon ones about every 2 years. Or you can buy Toyota and they will last 3-4 years. I always use a lockout when working under a gas supported hood, have had one fall on me. :(

Replaced by hood struts with StrongArms over a year ago and works like a charm. Bought it on amazon. I figured if it didn’t work, I could just return them but no need to.
