Here is my bumper I just got done building. Took about 4 months but I think it is worth it. Looks heavy but with a Warn M10000 winch it probably is around 150 pounds.

Fab work looks great. Ground clearance does not, looks like it is hanging very low on the body and close to the ground. Looks like a dog killer / zombie killer as opposed to a trail bumper.

Must have been VERY rewarding to bolt it up after paint job and 4 months of work!
 
With out the winch I bet at max it only weighs 50 pounds not much to it. On back of the tube is a cb antenna mount. It swings up and locks into place vertical or is locked behind the tube. My concern was it being to low but it is above the top of the axle by an inch or two. That was as high as I could get it with keeping the winch between the frame.

Ill find out first time I take it out I guess.

What is the lowest part of your bumper?


I left it so I can make brackets which move it a little further out and up but thought I didnt need it until now.


I also am going to put 1 inch spacers in the coils to level things out. THat would put my lowest part of the bumper which is the skid plate at 22 inches from the ground.
 
That looks nice, very clean lines. I wish I had the expertise for something like that.

I like the design and effort, it does seem a little low but who cares. If you are hardcore wheelin it may be a problem, otherwise you have some good protection out front. Isn't that what it is all about?

Being my DD im not going to do anything crazy. Excited to have a winch on there again.

Nice thing is I have the original template so if anything gets ruined I can just re-build it.

ARB and Slee 4", with tons of extra weight up front.. lowest point is the two loops that bolt to the bottom of the frame, better recovery points than the ARB ones plus when they slide on rocks they can protect the ARB a little bit.

yours looks pretty, but I'd worry that your lowest point is the fairlead- not the best thing to be banging into shelves.. however if you switch to synthetic a hawse would be a little higher right? nice fab work though, pretty stuff. :beer:

I like the bumper! It looks good, especially for a DD rig. If all you're doing is spending all your time wheeling in the big rocks, then raise it up. Otherwise screw everybody else's opinion to the contrary. ;p

No disrespect to anybody else, but it's not your bumper. Design and height are subjective and only a matter of opinion, his fab skills look good to me.:cheers:

FWIW, I think the most accurate comparison you can do is to measure a slee/arb in relation to your front grill since that is not affected by lift/tires.

By measuring the short bus off of slee's site, the shortbus is as tall as the distance from the lower front hood lip to the metal painted valence piece that is below the plastic grill.

Comparing that to your bumper, it appears that your bumper is about 1.5X the thickness of the valence piece. So by measuring the thickness of that valence piece and multiplying it by 1.5, it should give you a rough estimate of how much lower your bumper is than the shortbus.

And yes, I am bored and burnt out from studying and have nothing better to do than do some arm chair bumper measurements. :clap:
