I helped a friend of mine install a Holley Commander 950 Pro FI system on his '76 2F last year. This is the one with the programmable fuel maps via an attached laptop computer. We have never been able to get this thing dialed in. Usually, it runs way rich and performs very poorly. There downloads of fuel maps out there but none are matched to the 2F. We have repeatedly tweaked the fuel map but again, no luck. The truck runs, but runs crappy.

Has anyone used this FI system on a 2F before? If so, how did you get it dialed in?

Looking for a map program if there is one out there.

Thanks,

Jim

He's bringing the truck back to my house today to troubleshoot. I believe he is getting it to go into closed loop. I will check the signal on the O2 sensor.
I don''t know what size bbl he is using.

I will check these once the truck arrives tonight. This is Mike McInnis big blue truck, I believe you have met him up at GSMTR in the past. He usually camps in the far left corner of Spivey. (He's the Free T-shirt guy from Toyota)

I'll post up once I know more. Have you seen this system used on a 2F before?

ahhh...the free t-shirt dude ;)

I would second figuring out if it is getting into closed loop mode....how does it run when it first starts up? With the laptop, can you see the readings from the O2 sensor? also, do you have a fuel pressure gauge on it right before the throttle body?

Just got off the phone with Mike. Said he adjusted the timing and it now is running much better. It is still on trailer and will be enroute to my place shortly. We'll take her out for a test spin and see if it was a timing problem.

Mike has decided to install the GM TBI and save the Holley for a future V8 truck. Have most of the parts on hand and will install this week.

The truck still didn't run well with the recent timing adjustment.

Thanks for all the input.

Maybe the problem is you guys where high off that bag of meat Chuck D was talking about:D

Jim,

He is indeed using the 2 bbl. Do they have more than 1 size 2 bbl?
Yeah, there's a 400CFM and a 670CFM. The 670 would not be able to meter down low enough to run a 2F smoothly.

Thanks Jim. I'll check it and perhaps that is his problem. It sure seems like it is running rich.

The 400 is a 1bbl I thought..

Taht is the kit they sell for Jeep people.
It is funny, I have never actually seen a Holley TBI setup that worked as well as a properly adjusted carb.

I have a Holley ProJection TBI unit on my SBC and it has been flawless for the last 4 years. (Except for the bad batch of gas I got at Green Cove that was full of water.)

Okay, so that makes 1 ;)

From the Holley catalog:

"Commander 950 two barrel throttle body fuel Injection systems offer the owners with smaller engines the same opportunity of precise fuel and ignition timing control that others enjoy. Any 4, 6, or 8 cylinder even fire engine can be retrofitted with these systems. Two systems are available, a 670 CFM unit with two 85 lb/hr injectors for engines up to 275 horsepower and a 400 CFM unit with two 65 lb/hr injectors for engines up to 225 horsepower. Both units have an adjustable regulator."

It appears that the 400 CFM TB is from a 2.8L chevy and the 670CFM is from a 5.0.

So if your making over 225 horses, then the 400CFM unit will wind up as the restriction to you power. And if you use the larger one you can't make it run decent (except wide open?). :(

Mark...

Exactly! That's what's great about the Holley injection.
Like I said, I have never seen one work very well at all
