A group I belong to was invited by the SBNFS to go and do some trail maintenance up in Big Bear today. Our plan was to drive to 3N08 just east of 3N14 and move a large boulder and some fallen trees that are blocking 3N08. When we arrived at the ranger station we were informed that it was going to be near impossible to reach that area due to the snow level, but we were still going to go and have a look and see just how far we could get. We headed out to Holcomb Valley and soon found out that we weren't going to make it to our final destination, but we had fun trying! Here are a few pictures from the day. The rest are on my website.
The gallery is called Snow Day Holcomb Valley 2.3.08
It is in the folder called ROC
On to the pics

Nice - I guess the SoCal 80's group needs to step up to the plate this spring since we adopted 3N08 and have done very little since then.

Are we up for it some time this spring after the melt?

I don't even think I knew that!

I'll help if I can.

When we were asked by the SBNFS to come out and do this work for them, I was under the impression that they were asking us because this was not a trail that had been adopted yet. Did you guys do any work on it since you took it over?

Any word on the status of Holcomb Creek Trail? post fire closure.....

It was my intention to ask Greg Hoffman while I was there, but the opportunity never came. We were originally going to be driving inside the burn perimiter, through the closed off area, right past the begining to Holcomb, but the snow kept us out of the area. I wanted to see for myself what it looks like. It will have to wait till the spring comes.

Looks fun. Yep, harder than heck to get anywhere up there right now... even for a chained up H1.

The H1 was breaking trail for the group. It did an excelent job. Whenever anyone got stuck, he just turned around zipped down the line, past all the other rigs, pulled whoever it was out of there spot and then zipped back to the front to resume breaking trail. Those things are tanks.

Cool pics Braden, looks like a good time indeed.

I am down for getting out to our trail again when it is accessable. We have been away for awhile. :o

We were kind of up there adopting 3N08 along with the SoCal Trail Crew, so Greg Hoffman may think they've got it. Not sure. Given that we've done nothing, he may have given up on us and put the little trail back up for adoption.

Haha, thats cool we have that trail. All growing up I'd go with my mom and dad around out in Holcomb in our '78-'80'ish jeep grand wagoneer cutting firewood, mining for gold, hiking, exploring and just generally enjoying time outdoors. Havent been out to holcomb for a long time, I'd like to head out with you all whenever you go.

Brent, i had my USFS buddy checked his adopt a trail list and said he has SoCal Xterra's as the adopt a trail club listed for 3N08 right now... may not be super current info right now though.

Who knows. That's fine if that's what they've got. When we rode with Greg Hoffman, there wasn't anyone for 3N08. That was a couple of years ago.

I hope we still have it. I hope they didn't think we gave up on it or them.
