Now if you could only do your restoration in 2 and a half minuets !!

:D:D

I also did not replace those down spouts, or cowl drains as you called them. While you have everything apart, check the state of the seam sealer around the base of the cabin air intake that is just inside where the downspout screws on. My cabin air intake had dirt and decayed leaves packed all around it which caused water to leak into the cabin through the dried and cracked seam sealer in big rainstorms.

Ive got to seam seal the gutters as i wire wheeled them clean.
Yeah there is a few joins around them cowl drains that actually never got sealed at the factory,i'll do them too.

Oh now i reread that i'll look in there too, cheers.

Still not alot to report in with fellas, the body is ready for primer,i was sick of sanding so i gave it a break for a day or so,when not completly.
Cleaned up the dash with some fresh paint,on top of the dash pad im fitting a four runner instrument cluster modded to take 3 gauges, oil, egt and water temp, the insert for the dash will hold volt and turbo gauges.

Restored heater/air con fan.

Final photo is old repairs i keep running into under the paint,no wonder the body look a bit of corrugated tin.

Nice project. Should be the goods when you are finished. On the fixed rear windows, standard models had them in Aus, so you should find some at the wreckers if you're lucky.

I spotted two 60's a few weeks back in nsw with solid windows,so they were the base model?

Tuned in cause it's easier than working on my own cruiser.

You better beleive it,two days back the ends of some of my fingers were bleeding from sanding, yeah yeah i know wear gloves:bang:

We primed the roof yesty,a cuppla doors and one guard, saturday priming the rest of the body and a few other bits.

40 degrees here yesterday,got sidetracked late afternoon:beer::beer::beer:

Yeah ive allready got a set sixty

Not many photos to show guys but the body is in primer, everything else too except the rear tailgates.
Progress has been a bit slow as ive found quite a few old repairs under the paint, nearly rust free but she's had more hits then bruce springsteen, nothing major just small ones,it came from the city so its got to be expected.
I sourced some 8x10 flanged sintered bushes as a few hinges are buggered, the rear tailgate ones are the worst, both drivers door, the rest are quite good, but while its apart i might do the lot,i didn't ask toyota for a price on hinges as i reckon it might be a bit scary, plus i like the idea of making them a servicable item. You have to drill out for the bushes but it looks like they'll come up quite well,i'll take some more photos and detail this later if anyone is interested.
Paint turned up a few days back,4ltr colour,4ltrs clear, half ltr black base coat, hardeners and reducers added up to $1100:censor:

Yes, please post pix of the hinge repairs, I'd be very interested...

Hinges from Toyota are available, but run about $45 or so each, US, so it can add up fast if you replace the whole lot.

:)

Im off interstate for xmas for a week, when i get back i'll finish off the hinges and explain in more detail :beer::beer:

cool project mate
That colour rocks
i nearly bought a 79 series that colour
top darts

i get a fat every time i see a 70 in that colour,a cuppla weeks and we'll see if it looks good on a 60 or not.

Here's some more photos of the hinges
The door hinges take a 10mm bush without drilling, its a nice tight press fit or slight tap with the help of lube and a hammer.
I had cap bolts with a long shank i cut off and just welded the top side,in hindsight i should have cut them flush both ends and welded at both ends:hhmm:
The door hinges are not for the faint hearted to attempt, they are a bit weak when not bolted to the door, knocking the old pin out can push them apart a little if your not careful but they bend back jusy as easy, next time i'll do them completly off the car.I left them mounted. Grind the old head off the pins, the smaller side of the rivet is the easiest to knock out,i also ended up cutting them in half in the middle also to help ease the stress on the hinge when driving it out,i then drove one up then the other out the bottom .
Put new 8x 10mmm bushes in then your new pin(whatever you use just make sure its hardened steel) then clamp it together a little before welding.
Next time i'll also try and source the right lenght bolts to suit the hinges as it would be easier to spot weld a bolt and nut after its tightened.
Ah but i just remember the 8mm cap bolts i used had a little play in some of the body hinges, dam i better get some weld on the bottom side tomorrow:doh:
