there's one for sale that I just noticed on another board that is local to me. It's got 260,000 kms has been recently repainted factory silver and is almost entirely stock except for an added winch and IPF lights. The seller wants $15,000, but I'm hoping for a trade. My questions right now are:

Are these trucks running on 12 or 24 volt electricals?
What sort of mileage could I expect?
Is the engine an inline 6 or V6?
How easy is the engine to work on and are parts readily available?

Thanks.

It should be an inline six,2H motor. Probably 24v but some countries such as Australia are all 12v.

At 26000klms its halfway through its useful life if its been treated right.

There is not a lot an amateur can do to a diesel other than change filters/oil ect, glow plugs.
The injector pump,IMO,is best left to someone who has the equipment.
If a diesel is set up correctly it will not need any internal maintenanc for years.

Try real hard to find out what it was like before it was resprayed

It would have to be exceptional for that price. The clean, loaded, and turbocharged HJ61's coming in the last few years has effected the price of 60 series Cruisers. I would suggest you take the Cruiser to someone who will look at it with a critical eye, and knows cruisers. Have the oil pressure and compression checked, get it up on a hoist and gone through. This will be the best money you can spend "before" you decide to buy. At that mileage is where knuckle rebuilds need to be looked at, etc.

It will be 24V, with 12V headlights.

I can suggest Rob Millson of LCI in Richmond. He will go through the truck for two hours, and knows LandCruisers. Rob Millson 604.270.3540 email: dr.rob@telus.net

I would have to agree with greg. The price seems a little high when for a little more money you can get a import model that has less km, better options(turbo, lockers, winch, high top roof and power everything.

Not to mention the gawk factor.

my new hj

I just bought an 87 HJ60 about a month ago for $6000 (US$). As a comparison. It had 298k km on it, automatic, no A/C. Bone stock really. Some rust repair done it so there's very little rust on it. the quality of the rust repair is marginal but it looks good as long as you don't look too close. I'll do my own repairs to repair the repairs somewhere down the road. It's 24v. Parts seem readily available actually. The local toyota dealship has been able to get me a water pump and fuel filter so far.

I couldn't agree more with Greg, $15,000 is quite expensive, I bought mine for U$5000. It is in good condition : Entirely stock, a/c is working fine, i have a 4speed M/T and has 182,000Km on it. The only thing that would make a big difference to me is the transmission. A 4speed for your everyday usage can be frustrating.
Parts are available everywhere on the net. (I use SOR.COM)
Engine is inline, but i never had to do anything on it yet.
About lifetime, I read somewhere on the net that someone in Australia reached the million KM....

Good Luck

apparently, Central American spec is w/ a 4speed manual behind the 2H.
I've seen one or two with a 5 speed, but seems most have the h41.

Except the hj61s, which seem to all have the 5 speed manual.

This is for Costa Rica, anyway, don't know enough about other central american countries' cruisers to comment intelligently.
