Hey guys,

Really been twisting and turning over this. I have a 1986 HJ60 with a 24v system. Really want to add aux to it but keep running into snags. I've tried changing out radios, tapping straight into the speaker wires, amps, everything. Does anyone know if its possible to add aux into the original radio and stereo system?? Or if theres someone out there that can do it? Or any other options?

Here's what i've tried so far:
- Tapping straight to speakers with an aux chord
Result: audio wasnt loud enough. It capped out at a volume that was okay if the engine wasnt off. As soon as I got over 20mph I basically couldnt hear anything

- Swapping to a 12v radio (cheapo pioneer)
Result: I used a stepdown from 24v to 12v as to not fry the radio. Instead the stepdown fried and started giving me 5v. Opted for the next option

- Bucked up for a 24v radio (Continental Stereo with AM/FM/BT/USB - 24V - TR7423UB-OR)
Result: Since there's not technically a "trigger" cable from my ignition I had to connect the Constant and the Trigger together (on the radio side) to the LC's old radio power (24v). When I did so the voltage dropped to 15v. If i opted for just connecting the constant or trigger alone I'd get 24v but the radio wouldn't come on due to no trigger or constant. It's confusing. So I guess any modern 24v radio wont work either.

I saw a post a LONG time ago that said some guy was adding aux to Original stereos, if anyone knows about that I'd love to keep the original look but regardless anything helps. This 24v system thing just keeps kicking my butt. Also I've been told some hj60's have a stepdown converter already in there somewhere. Mine does not. Maybe the PO got rid of it? Anyways everything is 24v...

Thanks in advance

No clue on the aux part but maybe you find some inspiration here:
I'm going for a stepdown to 12v (there must be a reliable one out there) and than the Blaupunkt Hamburg SQM 23

sorry can't help with the wiring snafu, but here is a link to a 24v head unit that I just successfully installed into my 24v hj61. sourced from Ebay Australia:

Unfortunately most of those options are no longer available. Might have a lead from a facebook forum though!
