Cool build.. I see in some of your photos your crankcase breather pipe is still routed to your intake manifold.. its going to have be rerouted to go from the valve cover to a Pre-Turbo intake point.. otherwise you'll pressurise your crankcase.

Yeah that is a great point, if you look in the one picture showing the engine as a whole, it is not connected (I believe). It is disconnected right now, I knew that was going to have to be capped off for that reason. I was actually trying to figure out how to reroute that, this is my first turbo setup.

You could just vent it to atmosphere via a catchcan if you wanted as well..

Love all the photos.. looking forward to you posting an engine start video sometime soon :)

Interesting you mention that, I just ordered a catch can, this one to be exact: Mishimoto MMBCC-UNI-BK Black baffled oil catch can

Nice :) That'll do the trick, whichever way you to choose to go with the crankcase ventilation.

I can't wait to travel through America, Alaska, and Baja in it. It is going to be really exciting.

So like you said I can't wait to have the start up video of the engine :).

I can't remember if you posted this before or not, apologies if you have but what turbo kit are you running?

Vincent just noticed the link to your thread in the diesel section. looks like a very fun trip which I would be very inclined to do a well one day. I did notice in the photo of the intercooler that it s very close to your radiator and has a rubber pad between the two. That's a big no no in my opinion those back roads get very rough and you will have a hole in your radiator on the first leg of the journey. also it appears that your air cleaner to turbo inlet hose is very close to the exhaust housing of your turbo. any way you could reroute it? That silicon 90 will probably be seeing excess of 200 degrees for extended periods of time.

Good observation, thank you. However the intercooler was set like that purely during the mock up, because the front end is being completely refabricated. It will not rest against the radiator at all.

As far as the silicon, why is it a issue for it to see heat for the extended period of time? It is a 5 ply silicon coupler, many of the setups I have seen setup in a similar fashion, why would be the concern? I thought the couplers were made for that exact application.

Thanks for the comments!

I am ready to use this cruiser and go on my journey. I have been planning and dreaming of it since I was wounded in Afghanistan and medically retired from the Army in 2013. I can't wait to travel through America, Alaska, and Baja in it. It is going to be really exciting.

Builds are super fun.. overlanding with a well prepared, well understood, well equipped vehicle is a whole level more fun though :) I'm happiest when on a big trip with my own Troopy :)

Good luck with the rest of the build.

Nice job building the storage compartment into the inner fender. Looks good.

Thank you, you cannot see it but there are three compartments built in the rear, not one and in the rear driver side of the inside of the vehicle was cut to the dimensions of my ARB fridge so to save room, so I don't have it taking up the entire area of the rear storage space.

I plan on putting the red top Optima in one storage compartment and the two yellow tops in another. The third compartment will be for utility parts like a recovery rope, jumper cables, etc.

Not that you need any more work.. but there's room for a forth compartment accessed externally, in front of the rear wheels.. I have a small cupboard in that location with an external door for storing consumables like brake fluid, oil, trans fluid, window cleaner, RainX, grease etc..

I don't think I can put anything there I will have to look, I have my second auxiliary 20 gallon fuel tank/skid in that general location.

Gotcha.. you can see the door for mine in this photo..

Ah yes! Well my storage spaces (the three that I have that I cut into the fender area space to make) go to the depth of the exterior one you have. They are pretty deep. I like your idea though, very nice.

Also I see you have your two Lightforce lights on the front of your bumper, centered. I wanted to mount mine there to, because I like the look, but I was concerned about restricting air flow, is that a concern for you?

Also your CB antenna mounting location, I see allot of guys mounting theirs on the bumper like that. I thought about mounting mine on the roof at a angle, with a possible tie down strap. Wouldn't you get better line of sight with it higher on the vehicle?

Yes airflow was a concern.. but I've had no issues, and we've done some huge hill climbs and very long runs at high speed (for a 2H!) in quite warm weather.. its cooling without any issues. Incidentally I've also got an Engine Watchdog TM2 fitted (with the sensor on the back of the head) This provides an audible alarm at a preset temp.. a bit more peice of mind.

Generally.. the higher the better for a UHF antenna.. but with the antenna on the front I can judge the height of things before driving under something.. and our UHF is generally only used for road travel in a convoy or talking to Truckies. No need for any significant range.. not that you get much with UHF anyhow.

True, I have two 6.5" push fans on the front of the air-to-air intercooler as well, you think I would be good to mount them where you have yours? I love that location, it just aesthetically flows well.

I see what your saying about the CB and judging the distance, good point. I might put it up there, but have it a a 45 degree angle.

I test mounted them in other spots.. they just looked stupid. I'm glad the airflow worked out. I suspect you'll also have no problems.

I also have two smaller lightforce lights.. they angle off to each side, awesome on very windy roads at night, they let you peak into a corner you're turning into and illuminate the roadsides as you approach... they were invaluable on a recent trip that had a hairy night time drive in a very hilly area with lots of switchbacks etc.

You can see the smaller spotties in this photo..
