Lol, probably the biggest and heaviest stater I've seen on a light vehicle in my 20 years lol. She still works fine, I got the 2h starter modified just for back up for water crossings in remote area's, had one fail a few days after a mudy water crossing in my fj40 once.
 
I think I found a way to fit it. The oil passage blank that is fouling with starter has at 6mm worth of thread in it not being used so I should be able to machine 6mm off the blank mating surface. That should give me the clearance I need.
 
I think I have to get a back massage after moving the dinosaur starter lol.

Hey I know your post is old but what did you end up doing? I am about to do a similar swap and was looking at how to separate engine and tranny and while doing so and searching these forums, I found this post. I actually had the impression my H engine starter would fit the 2H. I also read one of the responses about a pre 1980 H starter and housing would work to a 2H w 4 speed, but a 1980 and onward might not. I have a 1979 H so I am wondering what you discovered.
