I just got my turbo kit from Turbo glide. It looks pretty straight-forward. I had them send a Donaldson air filter assembly as well. As soon as I get the Safari snorkle, I'll have everything to complete the install. I have a EGT gauge from Autometer and a boost gauge from them as well.

Before pics

Here's the beginning. The original air intake hose was torn, so atleast that will be gone.

Is this a oil return?

What is this bung under the rear access panel. I haven't seen that on other's pictures.

I think they sent the wrong oil supply fitting

The Donaldson filter is nice!
My truck doesn't have a way to connect a oil supply line to the oil pressure sending unit (which is the fitting they sent). Maybe that's how an H diesel would work? But mine does have a plug on the oil filter housing. Problem is finding the metric fitting to match up to the TurboGlide supply line fitting. I'm sure they'll send me the right one, I'm just trying to get it done now, today! The first picture is from a TurboGlide instructional dvd showing a 2H HJ60 oil supply line. My oil filter housing (second picture) has a plug on the right side, not in front like their picture, but it must be the same thing..right? Third picture is the oil supply fitting that was supposed to connect to the oil pressure sending unit. The oil sending unit on my truck only has an electrical connection, no plug or threaded connection. I buggered it up trying to unscew it, hope it still works?

There should be two oil pressure sending units on your engine. One for the EDIC circuit and one for the dash oil pressure gauge. You should be able to install that 'T' fitting from Turboglide into either of these locations. It's a 1/8" BSP thread fitting. (TurboGlide knows this and should have supplied the correct fitting with the kit.)

You unscrew the entire sending unit, install the T fitting and reinstall the sending unit in the open port of the T.

Unscrew the sending unit?

OK, so that whole round thing unscrews? The electrical plug that connects to the unit ends up where? I was turning it with plyers (there's no nut or bolt) and it was just spinning. Then I realized I knarled the contact piece. I can't believe that there is oil pressure against that free-spinning part. it's not a nut or anything that you can put a wrench on. Mine doesn't look anything like the picture Turboglide supplied and their DVD notes the pictures as H engine, not 2H ??? but, I am a rookie on this, so i'll try whatever you guys suggest! Check out the picture from TurboGlides DVD, it shows the oil sending unit connection for a HJ47. It is not the same as my oil sending unit, mine has no plug or nut , it just has an electrical connection.

That photo is not an H diesel. The H doesn't have an oil cooler like that photo.

There is no oil pressure against that free spinning part. The pressure is against a diaphragm that sits behind the free spinning part. Here's a photo of a bunch of different sending units: http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00UBoTHVPZggkC/Oil-Pressure-Sending-Unit.jpg That should give you an idea of the shape/size of the part that needs to be unscrewed from the engine.

Thanks Rufus

On those pictures, my unit is the one on the bottom left. That thing sticking out connects to a wire connector. I unscrewed it with plyers, only it doesn't unscrew. I'm clueless on this stuff, i'll admit. Give me a little time, and I'll take it apart. Then maybe I'll see how this can connect.

Ref. comment #7, How about a coolant temp sensor? I got more gauges than a nuke plant? Don't know where to hook em up?

I have an early 2H motor like yours, it has the oil pressure sender right above the starter motor, that'll be where you plumb in the oil supply line.

Also, I wouldn't be trying to remove that sender with a pair of vicegrips or the like, as you can see in the photo, it should have a nut on the engine side of the sender, use a 10 or 12mm spanner on this to remove the sender unit, screw in the turboglide supplied t-piece, then screw sender unit and oil supply line to said fitting.

You don't connect the T fitting to the sending unit. You remove the entire sending unit. Take the whole thing off of the engine using a wrench. There will be a threaded hole in the side of the engine. That's where the T fitting from Turboglide goes. Then you reinstall your oil pressure sender into the open port on the T.

Now I understand

After looking at TurboGlides's picture again, now I can see what your talking about. It looked like the fitting was attached to the outside to me, but after your post, I can see it's attached to the motor and the sender is attached to the fittinng. I was looking at it wrong?????
I'll take the sender off today, thanks for the tips guys.

finally got it figured out

I took the oil sender unit off this morning and installed the fitting for the oil supply line. I damaged the electrical connection on the unit trying to unscrew it yesterday, DUH! I'm such a newb! Any way, I appreciate the help here from everyone. I think the sender unit will work but I'll order a new one incase the plug completely falls off. I installed the oil drain plug into the altenator oil return. Then I had to shorten the #4 exhaust bolt per Turboglide instructions (theres a interference issue at that possition). Tommorrow, I'll drill and tap for the EGT guage, which i should have done before installing the manifold. I may have to take it back off to do it but I hope not. I'm assuming I can drill anywhere on the exhaust manifold. Other people have mentioned doing it after installing the manifold, the metal shavings being an obvious concern. I just got caught up in the excitement and forgot to drill it out first.
First picture is that oil sending unit with the attached fitting from Turboglide, next shot is the oil return connected to the altenator oil return banjo bolt (who runs oil thru their altenator? these Landcruisers are un-frigin-believable). And of course the last shot is the installed turbo,,,yipee!...Except I might have to take it off. #%@ it!

Donaldson air filter

Anyone thinking about a turbo, consider this donaldson Air filter. I saw it installed on Turboglides website and was impressed. Now that I have it here and took it apart I'm even more impressed.

Thanks for the write-up, it looks like a great kit. Is there a parts number on that filter? I have been looking for a Donaldson for our 1KZ-t powered Volvo 6x6...
...And looking for turbo info for my 2H-powered HJ45 :-), great thread!
