Curious if anybody has a custom bumper with swing outs that is using a hitch mounted bike rack. How much of a pain has it been to access the rear of the LC? Originally, I was thinking of having a rear bumper made to hold the spare tire on it with a raised receiver to use a multi bike rack on, but then I started thinking that even with the rack tipped down for access, I still probably won't be able to swing the tire out of the way. Anybody been down this road before?

Luke at 4x4Labs has made a few bumpers with bike rack that are tested for off road use.

If you want to keep your bumper Hitchswing™ - WilcoOffroad.com makes a nice product that can be off road trust worthy with options.

Anyone try one of these? Just purchased a Kuat but it does not (as expected) allow the swing outs on the rear bumper to open, nor clears the spare tire to fold up when not in use. Kuat makes a swing arm but seems to have mixed reviews.

Any thoughts on lower priced options?

I have a hitch extender (HF version that I drilled a 2nd hole in for more distance) that lets my 4x4 Labs rear swing out just clear my rack. Too bad the rack doesn't work for my FS frame, so I'm looking at other rack options.

Damn that thing isn't cheap.

Anyone know if the 1UP with a hitch extender will clear the rear tire on a hitch mount with a metal bumper?

1UP makes one of if not the best carrier but it isnt cheap either.

IIRC @bluecruiser uses a 1up with his 4x4 labs bumper

Thanks Phil. Anything else you recommend I compare it to? The Thule and Yakima stuff doesn't seem to be in the same league.

Oh cool, BlueCruiser is local. I'll message him if he doesn't see this thread.

I recently saw a new company with a carrier similar to 1up at a much lower price. Again Luke makes a carrier for 2 bikes on 1 swing out to fit his bumper that is off road rated.

Nice. Seems like Luke makes nice stuff from what I have seen on here.

I have a new Dissent is on its way when Ben finishes with them. I know the previous design has that other hitch built into the accessory carrier, but I ordered just the tire carrier initially and was hoping I could get it to work.

I have a 1Up also. Best horizontal carrier for the money. If you go beyond 2 bikes, it can be difficult to lower it down to access the back due to the weight.

Recon Racks is the best you can get for vertical carrying.

My gf has a Thule setup on the back of her XJ. The 1Up is in a whole different league.

Thanks. I think I am going to take the plunge and make it work regardless, haha.

My current setup is a 1up on a homebrew carrier.

I'm in the process of changing to a northshore/recon style rack to carry more bikes.

I have a BIOR rear bumper that has the tire swing out on driver side. I did that because my Kuat Pivot swing arm swings to the passenger side. The Kuat is pretty inexpensive for what it is and it works. I have had issues with mine sitting level and seems to get tweaked easily. I would look st the 1Up RackAttach. It does the same thing but comes in multiple sizes and you can pick what side it swings to.

Pics of my setup are below.
