Speaking of CB's: Anyone have a recommendation for a sleek unit with a remote display/interface? I want to do a good install finally and ditch the traditional unit I've used in previous years, but I can't seem to find any systems with a small interface to mount on the dash with the "brains" located out of sight. I'm sure they're out there, but I'm not using the right key word or something.

“Required”?!?! So you’re not allowed to go if you don’t have one

Never had anyone get too fired up about it. It’s a form of communication that’s adds to the safety of the group while on the trail. If you aren’t a fan of the chatter, turn it down a bit. If you are looking for a deal on one, Check Craigslist. In our opinion, for this event, yes, we consider is required for the good of all involved. Thx. PM me directly if you still have concerns. Hope that helps!

Required just seems a little excessive. I was just curious. With all the awesome pictures I’ve seen and the rigs that have been on the trails I haven’t noticed a cb on all of them . That is all thanks!

Dude. Relax. You need a cb on the runs. Lots of people use portable handhelds. Simple as that.

he didnt notice the CBs because no one was sporting one of these sweet antennas

If anyone is interested, I will be doing a discount for HIH8 for vehicle shipping. Cars could be shipped into Denver and stored safely at my place until your arrival. @fireball Shipped his in last year and got to enjoy a few extra days. It could save some serious pavement time for guys coming from far away places. I will post up in the official HIH8 thread once it comes around. Look forward to seeing everyone for my second year!

You can get a quote by going to www.summitautotransport.com.
Use 80113 as your destination zip code

I'll be looking for your thread if I get a spot. I like driving, but that was a lot of time in the saddle last year.

just sent in a quote request. Thanks!

Been looking forward to this since we pulled out of Silverton last year. My family will be super excited to hear that registration is right around the corner. Stan and Chris if I can do anything to help please let me know. Thanks, Gabe

Riverrunner,

I 'll hit you up on a shipping quote from Dallas. This would be a great way to lighten our load since we tow the 100.

Thanks guys, quotes sent. I did have one quote come through for delivery in Silverton which I quoted to Denver. Delivery in Silverton would be too difficult to set up and I wouldn't want someones vehicle to not make it for the event. Flying into Denver and driving your own rig to Silverton would be the best way to make sure there are no problems. With that in mind, it is impossible to tell an exact price this far out as they do change quite frequently, but the price I will give will be a good ballpark figure to budget for when the time comes.

We promise, the main thread is coming. We're trying to have as much info as possible before releasing that thread. HIH threads are some of the most viewed, visited and commented on threads in the history of MUD.

Get ready for another fantastic summer in the mountains.

We're currently working on the opening night party - which was super awesome last year. We're also working on dinner, permits, logistics, sponsors and website work.

Here's the official 2018 HIH Teaser. The official 2018 thread will have links to some great HIH videos so you can get a better idea of all the fun that takes place over this amazing week each summer.

Excited to go this year (assuming I can get a spot!!). Seeing pictures and videos from HIH7, it looks like an incredible few days!

Im relaxed homie. Not trying to start a riot or be difficult.

I installed a CB radio just for this event, had never used one. When I got there I was very glad I did, and while you may not be able to see from the pics. Everyone had CB radios, I didn't see anyone that didn't. Some folks have the temp magnet antenna and put it in and out of the truck that may be why you can't see it in some of the trucks. I saw temporary antennas rigged onto bumpers and roof racks. I didn't see anyone with out a CB radio. You really need one, and it should be a requirement as its a safety measure for the entire trail group. Its one of those things where if you don't have one it doesn't just affect you it affects the rest of the group. My 2 cents.

Hoping to attend my first HIH this year!

I would be buying a cb just for this event. Are the handheld ones reliable enough to use for this purpose without an external antenna? or should I just add an antenna to be safe?

Like this?

The handhelds dont have a very good range and sometimes the caravan lines on the trails get stretched out. I use this one on the roof when I need it and leave it in the back cargo when I dont. I prefer the whip antennas because they aren't really noticeable and wont shatter like a fiberglass rod antenna if hit by a branch. I attached a pic from HIH3 of my old blue 100 with the k30 antenna, but I still use the same setup now.

another good one

The cheapest CB I'd use is the uniden 510, but the compact midland and cobra setups are nicer and cleaner installs, but cost more money.
