High Pinion?

I think I saw something somewhere (happens a lot) about Cruisers newer than the 60s where the pinions are "flipped" so they enter the differential from the top as opposed to the bottom on the older models. Has anyone done this on a FJ60 & if so, what are the problems?
 
They aren't just flipped, they're designed to have the pinion shaft above the the axles. If you flip a standard pumpkin upside down, the pinion bearing won't get any oil and won't last very long. The FJ/FZJ 80s have the high pinion front diff. What I've wondered is why didn't the rear get the high pinion?
 
Yup, the 80 series high pinion front diff. Minitruck guys are saying the 80 series high pinion diffs don't last very long when used in the back. Something to do with the reverse cut of the gears. These diffs won't fit the cruiser rear axle anyhow.

When a RC unit is used in the Rear (when taken from a front application) it runs on the coast side fo the gears....the weaker side...some say by 15%-20%.
