My Cruiser has a 1HDT. It was imported from Japan. I see that Train Tamers offer the their 27060-17250TT as a replacement, with output at 120A.

Can anyone recommend a replacement upgrade for that engine?

I just had mine rewired, and got the call a few minutes ago....160 amps!! You might want to go that route.

I just ordered a drop-in replacement for $297 that is rated to 120Amps at 12v. They sell an Australian brand called Terrain Tamer. The Ozzys are the ones to goto for modding the HDJ81.

So what is your experience so far with the rewired alternator? Where did you get it done? A local shop or a chain? I am having connection issues in my dash so I am in the market for a new alternator just in case that is the problem. Last ditch effort.

I am scared to ask the price, but I am still debating that or the 390. I am a welder and I would actually be able to do some decent welding through that alternator. 4680 Watts is more than enough. Equal to 220V at 20 amps. I would be able to run a 3/32 7018 rod all day on that. Or an 1/8" in a pinch for probably at least a rod before the breaker would tell me to hold off. I would be interested if anyone had one too. And if they were getting those types of numbers as well as consistency and reliability I would be tempted. But damn, I was hoping to buy some other stuff for the cost of that thing.

OK then, what is the process in getting one of those shipped to the US? Do you have access to them? Sounds like a great opportunity if shipping is worth it.

Yes, I can buy it and ship to you, but delivery is very expensive
