I'll jump in. I have never seen a H4 HID upgrade that performs as well as good upgraded E coded, higher wattage and upgraded wiring harness light output. My 60 came with HID's when I first got it. Driving behind them were fantastic. But only awesome if I were the only person on the road. No cutoff, and I didn't want to be the "One" that created issues for other drivers oncoming.

I ripped them out and went with Hella e4 coded H4 housings with an Osram 80/130 bulb and upgraded the wiring harness. I love the cutoff and the light output is great. I can see much better on wet streets.

In comparison, I also have a Land Rover LR3 with adaptive HID's. There great lights, but I like driving behind my old school H4's better at night with wet streets.

Opinions will vary. But if you really want to do the test, have your significant other get in their vehicle and have them drive towards you. You want an honest opinion on your lights, you will get it. :)
