The 3 ton is on sale for like 120 the 4 ton was and probably will be again for like 140. Question is will the 3 ton adequately lift the whole front or back end of the truck? For 4 3 ton jack stands last week. Also where do you all put your satellite radio antennas and where do you hide the wires?

Generally higher tonnage rated floor jacks (and jack stands) have a higher vertical lift/height capacity. That was one of the big criteria's in my decision making process; especially important with 33"/35" tires...;)

As Spresso said, I have the 3 ton and wished I had bought the 4 ton just for the extra lift range.

3 ton = 5 in. - 18-1/4 in.
4 ton = 4 in. - 20-1/2 in.

I just got the 2 ton, low clearance, high rise, one. Very beefy, close to 24" lift height. Will also get underneath the Avalon nicely...

Update, the 3 ton can now be had for less than $80 if you work the coupons right.. and I have the coupon. I am going for the 4 ton at 130 plus 20% off plus I have a 4 ton bottle jack from them that I have never used that is going back. Also the 6 ton jack stands are on sale.

I'll be the odd man out and say I would not own a HF jack. This is one area I do not skimp on in terms of safety. I bought a very high quality floor jack and am happy I spent the money every time I use it. Had it for about eight years now. It replaced a Sears floor jack, which I gave to a friend, because I didn't like how it operated in terms of lowering the vehicle.

My brand new hf jack is extremely beefy. More thought into jack stands than the jack. I use 12 ton ones all around. My rig is only supported by the jack for a few seconds at a time.

So, what type do you use Super?

currently have 3 ton stands. Will change my oil, with the tires on and rotate the tires... and then probably take the 3 tons back and get 6 ton stands

Definitely getting 6 ton, if not 12 ton stands

I have my truck up on 3 ton stands now and ... the peace of mind is more than worth the difference in cost
Glad I got the 4 ton jack...it made a sizzling sound when it got the truck almost to max height... should I take it back?

No all mine do it too, once you reach max height it's like the hydraulic purges off the excess gas since it can't go higher. Pretty sure they all do it. I wouldn't worry.

AC Hydraulic

Very nice...how did you happen to get them? I searched high and low trying to find a set 5 ton axle stands that were made in their Denmark facility before they outsourced to China. Did not have any luck...even called up the factory.

I ended up having my fabricator make up a set of axle stands that are way overbuilt. I'll post up some pictures of them.

How about neither? Not a HF fan. I am, however, growing to appreciate HF more than I used to. Just picked up a great tile saw on a 4th of July sale with a 2 year warranty and it is performing just as nicely as the rental units, but for the cost of maybe 4 days rent.

I had a HF floor jack once and I can remember vividly an uncommanded load drop of about 2". The jack was just sitting there with a the front of a car in the air and I heard a 'pop' and saw the car bounce. Must have been an air bubble or maybe some debris next to a seal. It worked fine after that, I just never trusted it again. Not that you should trust a jack of any brand, but we all have at one point I'm sure.
