I was wheelin at my cabin in North Carolina the this past weekend and I used both lockers at points in low. When I turned off the lockers after using them the rear locker stayed on. I tried driving it everywhere and turning it off and on but it wouldn't go off. So then I put it in high, (keep in mind I don't have a center diff lock switch) and i drove back to my cabin. So then I had to drive 4 hours back to my house in Atlanta and it was hell. If any of yall have done a long trip with a rear locker... well it is hell because you feel like the rubber on your tires is just peeling away by the minute.

So im sure some of you have had this problem. My question is one how do I fix it? (and by that is it easy=do it myself, or hard=take it to a shop) keep in mind i don't know how to do to much work myself I have only done some things. Second question is it real bad for the cruiser to drive a lot on road rear locked (except for tires cause that is an obvious answer) like is the drivetrain in danger in any way? I would like to get this fixed soon as for every time I turn it burns rubber. I have a toyota specialist shop close by if it is not easy to do myself. But if yall give me some sugestions maybe I can point out where they should go with it.

Thanks again yall and happy wheelin!

sorry to hear that
there is at least one thread on "how to unlock a locked locker"
have a look

You can also probably pull out the actuator etc...

and no, don't drive it like that any more!

mmmm...

I run my 40 with a welded diff (perma-locked) and other than added stress on the rear drivetrain and tire wear, it's not a huge deal....best bet would be to MAX tire pressure to minimize contact. I know a number of people who run daily's with spools as well with no ill effects (beyond tires).

most likely, switch contacts....clean 'em at the diff and that may cure it. And per the others, there is a FAQ on this too.

My actuator is dead so I drove mine about 40 miles with the rear locked. NBD. Just like a welded rear or a spool. I wouldn't reccomend it forever, but it ain't no huge thing. Unless it's snowing, then you have some weird handling issues.

The rod that engages the dogs may be stuck. Pull out the gear, noting the position, and unstick the rod. Pull it all the way out and clean and lube. See the FAQ for details. Clean the contacts while the gear is out and you'll never know if I was right or Woodrow was. ;)
