Help with Exhaust Removal

I am selling a Jeep Wrangler for my brother and I'm in the middle of replacing the muffler. The muffler broke on the forward end and the outer "shell" slid off of the "baffle" which is still attached to the exhaust pipe. So, most of the muffler and the tail pipe have been removed.

The remainder of the muffler, which is of the type that slides over top of the exhaust pipe, is so rusted on that I cannot remove it. I have heated it with a propane torch and twisted with a pair of channel locks, but no luck. Suggestions?

Yeah, the problem is I would like to retain that exhaust pipe.

you could always chop it and just use a pipe expander to restore the flare?
If the muffler is just stuck on the outside of the exhaust pipe then you should be able to use a grinder or dremel to slowly cut through the outer layer. That is if i'm understanding your problem.
That's what i've done before, never on my vehicle though.

if the seem has been clamped then you will have to cut the outside with something to get it off. i've got some badaxx air hammer bits that cut right through the outer piece while not hurting the pipe, but they are in fredericksburg with me.........

like Sam said, cut it off with something. A steak knife would work great!!!! ha ha

Yeah, the problem is I would like to retain that exhaust pipe.

....it's probably the only thing of value on the rig....after all, it is a Heep

2x on the rotary tool/dremel with a fiberglass cutting disc. Slot one or both sides, pry apart, and remove. You might even want to apply a smidge of Kroil.

I never use a tool unless it is plated with a precious metal or encrusted with jewels. Preferably both.

The angle grinder with the cutting wheel was the ticket. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Saved me some bucks. I'm mounting the remainder of that muffler in my garage. Might even get it bronzed. And I'm doing this
