Just checkin' in...

I'm usually hoser on other forums, but obviously a more experienced offroader beat me to the handle.
:crybaby:

Not more experienced, just more POSTS! ;)

I've got the 285/75 REVOs and while I like them, my set has had a quirk. I can't seem to get them to stay balanced for any length of time. I get my tires rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles and these seem to develop a slight(but incredibly annoying) wobble/vibration about 1500 miles after they've been balanced.

I put oversized 18" BFG AT/KOs on my 05 King Ranch F150 and they are smoother and quieter than my Revos ever have been. I'm thinking the next set of tires for the LC will be the BFGs.

BFG's vs Revos...

let the challenge begin! Anyone else have experience with both of these? I'll wait for responses.

Balancing A/T tires seems to always come up as an issue, at least from what people tell me. Has anyone run into issues with keeping their tires balanced with either a of the big 5 tires that are popular on here? (BFG TA, Nitto TG, Toyo Open Country or the GY MT/Rs)

What about the Yokohama Geolander AT+IIs?

Out of 3 sets I have only had one BFG A/T tire that had a balance issue, and the only issue was after 50k miles it took some extra work to get it balanced right and then it was fine.

FYI, this tire is being replaced the by Geolander AT-S, so you should be looking at those instead.

I had the exact opposite experience. 3 out of 5 of my BFG 295/75-16 AT/KO's couldn't balance perfectly on a Hunter GSP9700 machine. The technician said they were borderline defective but still considered okay. I'm not sure if they used the Haweka adapter or not. My 285/75-16 Revos balanced great taking very little weight. The BFG's were about 5lbs heavier per tire though.

For what it's worth I really like the BFG A/T's. Have had great luck with them in a wide variety of conditions and up to mid level off roading in mixed conditions.

I've had BF Goodrich M/T and Goodyear MT/R. Both lean more towards the off/road than on. Could not get the BF's balanced correctly. The Goodyears balanced better, and I thought they were quieter (less road humm). Liked them over the BF Goodrich. Just my opinion.

Question - What is the largest size tire that can fit underneath in the stock spare tire location.

35" but a 315/75-16 would hang way low. The skinniest spare I could find in a 35" was an Interco TSL bogger tire at 10.5" in width. <buzzzzzzz>

Lets say i was to run a 35" set of wide A/T tires....and i got a flat. Would putting a 35" bogger tire with a skinny tread patch hurt the diffs, as long as the actual overall diameters are about the same? Would tire pressures affect the diffs also if a spare had a different pressure then the running tires?

As long as the diameter of all the tires are nearly the same, your differentials will be happy. Obviously, running mixmatched tires has its own risks. Drive slowly.

X2
Quite on the highway and they wear well, the AT's suck in mud though. They load up fast and do not self clear. They were my commuter tire when I worked 35 Miles from home through the vortex of weather in the Sierra.

If the BFG A/Ts load up quick, then they must be amazing in the snow, no?

They clear snow "okay" not the greatest, but fine for hard surface roads. Or good dirt roads.

They are great on icey roads.
They even do pretty well on boulders.

hmmmm. Well my tires are starting to really get angry with me...they would rather stay on the road then on the wheel so im loosing tread quickly. Maybe ill upsize to a 33 and see how that is, if not ill just put my other set of wheels back on with the stock LTX's.
