Hi everyone, Dave (MoGas) recommended that I come over here and get your opinions on this 80 I've been looking at. I know the owner has posted up on Mud before, but not sure how active he is with you guys, but if anyone knows anything about this truck I'd appreciate it: Cars.com: 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD

I'm sure some of you have seen me around, maybe more on some other forums , my name is Heidi and let me tell you about my situation. For the last year I've been daily driving and weekend off-roading our 07 FJC which has been a ton of fun and I love the truck to death. However its starting to get high miles packed on and my other half, Josh, is tired of me beating the truck up on the weekend. :grinpimp: So we figure it is in our best interest for me to get my very own truck to beat on! Right now I'm looking at 80 series and 4Runners...my budget is low @ $5k, and I work very part-time trying to finish up my degree which I will be doing for the next year. I need a reliable and capable machine, and so far in this price range I've seen some very nice 4Runner options and some 80's beat to hell.

I know you all are going to be biased to the 80, but I already love that truck! I'm just not sure it is the right truck for what I need right now. If anyone knows of one within my budget that is in god condition please let me know. And any info you can provide on the truck listed above would help as well.

Thanks!

Not ALL of us own, or are biased toward the 80 series, I think there are maybe three or four of us who don't own one:grinpimp:!

So does that mean if I end up with a 4Runner I won't be lynched? :hhmm:

Check my signature! As an FYI, I would go no newer than 99 if you want to do an SAS conversion eventually...

Nope probably will never take it that far with this next truck but thanks for the info. Just looking for something to get me through the next year or two that I can take out on the weekends and not worry about beating it up a little.

some of us wheel the original :flipoff2: or should I say armwrestle

Agreed! 157%!

(Now Claudia, that wouldn't be a dual reference to my choice of converting to power steering now would it?:D)

And I would love a 60 series! But just can't do it at this time.

You currently have an FJC - why would you go from a vehicle with fuel injection and a linked suspension to a vehicle with leaf springs and a carburetor? And to make matters worse, a '60 comes with a semifloater rear axle...:grinpimp:

Well as I stated above, the FJ isn't going anywhere I just need my own truck to wheel. Josh and I 'share' the FJ and so far that has worked out but I think he is getting tired of driving his subaru and wants to be able to drive the truck more. I like the subaru but hate driving it on a regular basis so it will be easier for me to get my own truck that I can take out on the trails anytime even if he can't go.

Thanks for everyones help here! As of last night it looks like I'll be inheriting the 4Runner we have been bugging Josh's parents about for 2 years now. 1997, less that 100k miles, rear locker and always maintained. Downside is I have to wait about another month for her to pick out the new car she wants, but I'm hoping we can bring it back with us when we go to visit for xmas. I hope you guys won't mind wheeling with a chick in a 4R!

Time to start picking out the xmas gifts.....

Inheriting cars is awesome. I hate our 2002 Mazda 626, but it was free so I won't complain. I've got my eye on my Grumpa's 2nd gen 4Runner, ordered with 4WD and A/C as the only options. I'm guessing he's put 50k or less miles on it. Now I just have to convince the :princess: that she wants to drive it.

i think the runner will be great for you, size should be fine, better mileage, cheaper to maintain i believe.
for what you do with a rig i dont think the beefier/ heavier cruiser is a needed thing, unless your planning on harder off roading.

some are weaker than others :flipoff2:

I agree...I want to be able to hang out on the trails but at the same time I need to be able to get around town as well. Hopefully in a couple of years when I'm back to the real world of working full time and no school I can upgrade to an 80....a 97 should be well within my price range by that time!

Now who can give me a lead on a TJM front bumper since they are no longer being sold here in the US???
