Well now it looks like it will be a little longer before i get it out on the trail. I was driving around today running errands getting ready to go on vacation tomorrow. I come out of Target and put it in reverse to back out and it starts moving forward. I thought oh must be my shift linkage... NOPE! kick down cable? NOPE! vacuum line... NOPE!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! so I push it out of my parking spot thinking my reverse is shot. start driving and realize i am stuck in 1st gear!!! I am actually stuck in 1st gear no matter where I shift it! Even in park. The park lock-up works, but I can tell I am stuck in first gear because if I rev it at all it feels like it wants to go and it won't rev freely. That feeling like you have your foot on the brake and give it a little gas while in gear. Same thing in park! CRAP! any ideas what the heck is wrong?

drop the pan or drain the fluid and check for metal. had a similar issue with a th350 i put together. felt like it was going into first and reverse almost like a trans brake so i dropped the pan and found alot of little metal shavings. somthing shredded and the valves in the valve body were suck because of the metal shavings. my guess is a valve body issue. good luck .

Found the culprit. There is a small s-hook that connects the shift linkage to the shift rail in the valve body when I dropped the pan I saw the hook just dangling there. Works great again.

had the same problem. easy fix luckily

yep definitely easy here is a pic. i would think there is a better way to attach this to make sure it doesn't happen again. that would suck to happen on the trail.

yeah, mine broke on the trail, luckily it was at the end of the day and i could still load it on the trailer.

I don't trailer mine so that would really suck!!! I already had to push it out of a parking spot and drive it home is 1st gear for 25+ miles. anyone know of a permanent solution?

could you drill a small hole through the end of the "S" hook and add a cotter pin to keep it in place?
