Help selecting new speakers (1 Viewer)

Hello again.

I have a 2004 lexus LX470 which requires some new front door rear speakers/woofers. Both driver door and passenger door bottom speakers are blown. Google tells me that they are 6.5" woofers. I could be wrong but I dont understand that. Can I not just order 6.5' speakers from cruthcfield and use those?

Rockford Fosgate R165X3

I was planning on buying the above mentioned Rockford Fostgate speakers and simply replacing the blown woofers with these Rockford Fosgate 3 way speakers.

Also could someone tell me if the above mentioned Rockford Fosgate speakers are good enough to work with the Factory Mark Levinson amp/system already installed in the LX? I dont want to install these and turn up the bass and blow these new speakers.

I have used Crutch-field to allocate speakers for multiple vehicles. Never have let me down and customer service is great! The question is how much money you want to spend? I just bought speakers from there as well. Ended up with the Kicker 43CSC674. Most of these higher end, speakers you actually will need an amplifier to get the full power out of them. IMO i would spend the same amount of money on a higher end 2 way speaker.

Crutchfield for the win. Use their "what fits my ride" feature and be done. That's what I did, $150 for all doors and sub.

Yeah that’s the thing. I don’t want to spend too much because I’m spending a lot every day elsewhere on this. Just doing random small things I think it needs. I’m not much of a audiophile. I do like some bass is all, otherwise just need some speakers to listen to music so I don’t fall asleep. Can’t bear the cracking sound coming out right now.

So the 3 way Rockford speakers I listed aren’t good?

There was also 2 way jvc speakers for basically same amount of money.

When I called Crutchfield they informed me that the stock speakers are 2ohm and if a standard 4 ohm speaker is used, the volume would be reduced. The options are much more limited for 2ohm.

My speakers are 4 ohm and my stock stereo cranks out 100db in crystal clear sound.

I used to be an audiophile. Higher ohm means your amp works harder, but for normal listening and the occasional cranking of the tunes it'll be just fine.
If you were running at full volume for hours on end then you'd want to match the ohms perfectly.

But for 99% of us out there, ohms is not a factor.

I’m just stating what I was told when I ordered my speakers. I believe there may be an issue with my factory amp because I have to turn the volume almost all the way up to get decent volume. If the windows are down, it is maxed out.

I bought these for my LX with the Mark Levinson amp, i'm no audiophile and my speakers were blown to begin with so i have no clue how they would've sounded stock. These speakers sounds good to me, good mids, and treble, the punch is not there but that's what the sub is for. It's not plug and play, i had to solder the old connector onto the new speakers.

I can't say for sure, but from experience if Crutchfield says yes than it fits.

I just purchased these from Crutchfield. 2ohm Component setup. Planning on installing them this weekend. Crutchfield sends speaker wire adaptors and speaker brackets free of charge with their speakers.

For the price and the fit I'm quite satisfied. Once I replaced them it was very obvious that my sub was blown as well - I went with the cheapo subwoofer replacement addressed in many other threads...

i agree with riverratt22 Infinity Kappas all the way. You might as well wait for him to do the install and see if he likes them first. As far as 2 ohms goes, that's crazy. I've only ever heard of subs with that low of resistance! I think someone above said higher resistance means your amp works harder and that kind of depends on what you mean by "works harder".

Too keep it simple we'll only consider the speakers in dc mode even though the frequency response changes this a lot.
P=I*V (p is power, I current or amps, and v is voltage).
I=V/R (r is resistance or ohms).
So at 12 vdc with a 4 ohm load we get 36 watts of power.
At 2 ohms we get 72 watts of power.

Crank up you volume and you push more Current to make the Volume (DB) higher.

The other big thing to consider is the efficiency of the speaker usually measured with 1 watt at one meter at 1khz, though nicer speakers may list more frequencies.

So, short story long, Ive had good luck with Kappas in other vehicles i would wait for RiverRatt22 to install. If he likes them, they play loud enough, and you can afford them, buy those. Otherwise i would give Crutchfield a call, they seem to know their car audio.

So I ended up saving some money and bought JVC 2 way speakers for $80 Canadian off Crutchfield. I’ll have time some time next week and maybe install next weekend or attempt to install. I’ve never done it.
