I have not been kind to my 80. This truck has been on its back, sides and nose on many occasions. All the glass is busted out. The dana 70 has imploded and the 35spline shafts have exploded. (now run 35sp 300m with drive flanges) I bounce her off the rev limiter all day with 10lbs of booste blowing through the intercooler. Despite these abuses I maintain consistent maintainance.

For the first time in the 12 years Ive had this machine the motor isnt running right. I went to start her 2 days ago and she runs funny. starts and idles perfect but resitates and stutters at 1500rpms. she coughs for about 5 seconds while the tach moves up past 2500 rpms then she takes off again and runs smooth at glass builting booste and pulling hard through 4000 rpms like nothing is wrong. I thought perhaps it was the TPS so i ran to autozone and changed it out but it makes no difference. I cant see any vacume leaks under the hood. This truck had a new headgasket and valve job about 5 yeras ago and has less than a thousand miles on it since then. i trailer her everywhere

One tidbit. the week before I was playing with the cruiser in a dry river and ran it out of gas. I put more gas in her and kept going for several hours with no problems before i parked her. probably didnt make a difference but i mentin it

What gives?

dribbling injector(s)
fuel pump relay or wonky voltage to pump until it sees full voltage

sounds a bit like it's running rich at lower rpm's and leans out as the engine builds power/boost

i guess just keeping your foot into it works so go with that

yea if i dont lift its all good which is fine for playing in the dry river bottom by my house.
But i will need to take her into the mountains soon and I need a slow speed option. What sucks is that it was working perfect a week ago

I wonder if i jacked up the pump when i let it run out of gas and tried to start it several times before i noticed it was out of gas (duh). But again it ran good for a few hours after i put gas in it. id didnt run funny till i started it after she had sat a few days.

Probably stirred up all the crap in the bottom of the tank and clogged the screen or the fuel filter. Could also be the relay bit, but usually, a filter gets clogged after running something out of fuel.

BTW how does a Dana 70 IMplode? I can see EXplode, but not IM.........:flipoff2:

It can idle fine because the fuel supply and pressure can still outrun the fuel demand. I'm not sure what "poeer" is, but if that means WOT, then I'm not sure.

I know I'm old enough to not make a full pee....anymore....... I have to take Viagra so I don't pee on my shoes.........

Frequently, the engine will run fine at idle and for 5-10 miles, then start losing power and choking out, and as soon as you stop, it idles fine. you sit with it idling fine for a few minutes, then take off and in 5-10 miles, it does it again. That's because the fuel pressure / volume is being built up while you sit, and after you get above your threshold RPM, then the demand starts outweighing the supply, and you lose power and it starts all over again.

Just slow down, look at the flowers, enjoy the view. It's your LX's way of forcing you to enjoy the world around you!!! :flipoff2:

"slow down and enjoy the flowers"

if i wheeled that way id still have a windshield

If i dont figure this out soon Im going to have to bring this truck to the local toyota dealership. I dont mind bringing her to the Yota dealership here in hanford. The sales staff never hassle me when i bring it in. They dont want her in trade and are afraid she may try to hump a prius.

I busted the d70 bouncing hard up a ledge in st george utah. Marlin crawler fixed that.

I broke the d70 rear shaft trying to get the lexus up back door at the Hammers.

I broke most of the glass out rolling her around in the sierras above fresno.

I shot the rear hatch glass out with A bb pistol from 75 yards. I didnt think I could hit her from that distance but did. bummer on that one

on her back in sierras

on chocolate thunder at hammers

Old Dusty....

Only posts when he needs help.

 As opposed to sharing his epic adventures...

How is the house up by Dusy? We all really appreciate the time you let us go there!

Beno
Sigh...Epic adventure...I got four kids now and 3 of them are daughters that like boys. I could use more adventure nowadays.
Cabin still there-use it anytime you or the crew is up there. That run up Dusy with you and your Norcal crew was such a good time. keep me on the contact list everytime you go.

You should see the IFS Super buggy me and dad conceived. It could run the Dusy in a day and be back by dinner
