Hey All,

I am a new LX470 owner ( new to me 1998 with 376k miles) and am in the process of doing some repairs on the vehicle as it is giving me some troubles before becoming roadworthy. I have spent a ton of time trying to scour the local based resources ( the local pick and pulls, salvage yards, etc. ) for parts that I can buy relatively cheap compared to dealer, but have not had much luck as unsurprisingly the yards in the metro Atlanta and surrounding Georgia area don't have much of a LX470 graveyard. As such, since I found the throttle body to be interchangeable with a Tundra/Sequoia of the same year, I spent some time going through the forum here to identify other parts or pieces that have been used interchangeably across the Tundra/Sequoia/100 series vehicles, but have not had much luck finding anything. Sure, a few folks have posted some discussions around the throttle, but I know that Toyota has a tendency to reuse these quality parts across the fleet, so there must be some other things they decided to throw on that can be pulled from other cars.

So, long story short, I want to put together a comprehensive interchangeable list of parts that you can grab off of other Toyota models and use on the 100 series. I would like to contribute as a PDF or an article that can be a mainstay on the forum (if it doesn't already exist) and help others like me that are either not financially inclined or morally inclined to pay some of those extortion level rates at the stealership or junkyard who is using the word Lexus as an excuse to upcharge used toyota parts. Let me know your thoughts around this idea and what could help make this a valuable resource.

Please feel free to reply with some that you have personally found as interchangeable so that I can start compiling and craft a useful tool.

P.S. - I don't know if anyone has experienced this, but after reaching out to a lot of salvage yards that have LX470 parts in them across different parts of the country, they are pricing some of those used parts quite exorbitantly as well, to the point where buying from an online lexus or Toyota dealer makes just as much sense. Am I just really cheap or has anyone else experienced this? (I am definitely "value" oriented but come on)

Thanks!

Awesome Stuff keep it coming folks!

Another quick one to throw out: If your Transmission indicator light burns out on the shifter, the green capped bulb (part no:90010-01039)
can be snagged from a Tundra , sequoia Prius, or certain model scions. I will obviously make this a lot prettier in the final spreadsheet but quick tidbit as I know mine went, and essentially free at salvage yards. Cheers, may your shifts be ever illuminated!

You beat me to it! I have been thinking about posting this for some time and comparing 1st gen tundras that I see. There are very few LX or land cruisers by me in yards it on the road in general. Also I wonder in a long shot but other Toyota models as well. (FJ- 4th gen 4 runner)

Only thing I have found for certain so far are engine components. 98-02 non vvti tundra sequoia. I believe the vvti is similar across tundra sequoia and 4th gen 4 runner with V8. (Technically 100 engines built in Japan however)

Some items may cross over as well even if part numbers are different.

One item that looks similar but not certain is door handles in tundra Sequoia.

Sean,

I have been spending too much time trying to hunt this all down so I figured why not just make this worth it for everyone. I am tired of feeling SOL every time I need something and play "I wonder what the markup is" at the local parts counter, especially when there are a wealth of Tundras, sequoias, and other Toyotas sun bathing in the salvage yards.

Thank you for the lead on the door handle! I will start digging in and trying to cross reference that. Off to investigate!

I think the exhaust manifolds might be shared. This would be beneficial with those with leaky manifolds.

What about rear coil spacers? I have seen some LC coils and coil spacers that say they work on 00-07 sequoias, and there is a lot more size availability in the coil spacers at a lower cost. As for coils themselves I doubt there's any simple interchangeability.

I have compared my 00LC next to the same vintage tundra for quite sometime in a parking lot once. I noticed the front fenders and grille are different but what about where they mount to the cab? I have daydreams of owning a Tundra with a LC or LX front clip!

Many GM vehicle front clips where interchangeable. I have seen escalade clips on pickups. Hmmmm

Also cab mounting points. I have heard of vintage trucks (ford I believe) that bolted right on to a newer frame with little fab work. I put a c10 cab on a k5 when I was in high school. The possibilities are endless!!

I hate that damn light. I'm glad the washboard did it in lol

Long time ago I worked in a junkyard/pick and pull. It had several parts already pulled and shelved for users. The thing is we had interchange books already. Someone should have this already. It should be electronic by now. This was in mid 80's. Has anyone come forward that may have insight or publisher of such a database. Anyway great idea if it doesn't exist here.

Salvage yard seem to one of two software program. One just show LC compatible with LX for the most part, seems to be Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Others have a more powerful program that will bring up the Tundra, Sequoia, 4Runner 4.7L, GX470.

Still one must always cross check by not only year but more importantly MFD date. Sights that request VIN are some of the best. We've many small change through the years. Most done in June or May and even January from what I've seen. Even online Toyota & Lexus Dealer software have many bugs in their software.

My two best sources have been:
  1. My local Toyota Parts department, I've built a repore with over~15 years. My guy has never given me a wrong part where I gave him good info to go on. He said I order stuff nobody else does. Some very tiny and hard to find. It's worth IMHO to have a local guy and pay a few pennies more.
  2. I've also had very good luck with PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World by inputting VIN. The diagrams are invaluable. But cross comparing is a pain.
Some others I use:
Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Toyota Parts & Accessories Online
JAPANESE GENUINE OEM PARTS CATALOG|JP-CarParts.com
Parts.com® | Automotive Parts, Accessories and Merchandise
ToyoDIY.com
OEM Toyota Parts Online | Village Toyota Parts

Used parts:

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

I found one web page the other day (lost it) that gave me name of plant of MFD. If I find it again I'll post it up.

All these sights lack one thing, that i8mud is valuable for. Those little parts that are not sold by Toyota or Salvage yards. Parts like the tiny motor for the door actuators. Somewhere in mud is a thread giving info for this. Those tiny parts which fail that are sometimes the heart of a problem. Those are the most valuable often save hundreds if not thousand for the DIYer.
