got everything put back in the fj40 all torqued to factory specs......tranny was looked at and all clear...transfercase was fresh rebuild and new u joints and driveshafts electronically balanced......rear end is a fresh rebuild less than a year old....preload ont he ebrake drum was between 4 and 7 lbs

when i am costing to a stop and shift into heutral to toll to the stop.....once Iget to about 15 mph there is what I would describe as a flutter.......almost like a metal sound similar to a baseball card in a bicycle wheel.......very spees sensitive...as the speed declines te flutter fets further and further apart.......does this EVERYTIME I roll to a stop with no load on anything......if I do it engages in a gear al is quiet.....

HELP PLEASE!!!:bang::bang:

does it make noise at a roll speed..ie:pushing the vehicle when at idle or shut off?..any diff with the clutch in/out?what if you leave it in gear and let it just about quit when stopping?

ignition on or off makes no difference......clutch in or out makes no difference.........leaving in gear with a load on it it does not make the noise...its only when in neutral under no load at 15mph until dead stop

Is the rear open or does it have a limited slip? I had the same problem...ended up being the rear dif. It was the weirdest thing only at low speed coming to a stop with no load. I think it may have been the clutch packs for the limited slip, anyway I replaced the third member and all was good.

its ...all stock (rebuilt)

I would try disconnecting the rear drive shaft and rotating the rear wheels (jack stands). Also while drive shaft is out and engine runnig, try transmission in gear with tcase in neutral then t case in gear. You may have already tried these?

have not....about to go CRAZY about this......UGH

Understand that. I recently did a transmission\tcase swap and although I had a few problems I didnt have this one so not much help, but I would try to isolate the noise and hopefully you won't find glitter in those fluids.
