if i can hear the edic relay clicking when i turn the ignition on, would that rule out the oil pressure switch being the problem?

Edic relay....for sure? you found it? Your not hearing the glow plugs or something eh?

The relay gets power thru the ignition. So it could click when you turn on the power.

Do you have any small jumper wires? or get someone to put a wire across the low oil px sw connector or which ever one you find. Although shorting out the oil pressure sending unit wire is not a good pratice. it could damage the gauge inside. So I suggest you turn on power(key to run) then have someone touch the wire momentarily to those connections, watch the needle on your oil pressure gage, if it moves any at all, thats the wrong connector. You will need to short the other one. I say momentarily cause if you leave on a short it could screw the gauge. Its used to having resistence there.

the connector for the oil sending unit(gauge in dash) should have Yellow black wire going to it. and a ground wire maybe????

the low oil px sw(edic) is a YB as well, but it also shows a WB wire there. SO that may help decide which is which.

Now my darn FSM doesn't show the posistion of the two switches, but I am presuming the oil sending unit one is the aft one......Presuming.

Can someone else chime in here?

Ok try that. I will check back later or in the morning. Tomorrow when it is light I can look at my 3b to see if I can tell you which is which. If you need to call me I can PM my number at that time to see if I cana help.

But try that first.

hey mate, thanks for all your help, heres an update..

i didnt have my oil pressure guage working before but i dont think it was connected. I Connected the wire and it started to work... it moved to just below half way at idle.. is this low? anyway...

im not sure what you mean about putting a jumper across the connector... it's just one pin, that a wire connects onto...

and im pretty sure that it's the edic relay thats clicking, it has eight wires going into it and its a different sound to the glow plug relay :) its mounted onto the side of my glove compartment, on the outside...

anyways ill keep fiddling around...

:)

Ya, I have not worked on this stuff at all, You are getting my advice from me looking at the FSM and thinking about how it all goes..

So if thats the case it only has one wire, then ground it out. Same effect as closing it.
The manual made it look like it has two wires tho.... Ok, Promise I will go and look at my engine tomorrow,.

I am seeing reference of the fuel control relay on here, its just another name for the EDIC relay, In my FSM it says EDIC, but in essence it is the fuel control.

thanks Wayne for adding in, Now Wayne which is the low oil px switch. Forward or aft?

more problems

hey guys, i couldnt fix the edic arm, however i managed to get it in the right position to start the car, it moves when i short out one of the wires. So i decided i'd just drive it like that (and stall it when i wanna switch if off) and take it to an auto electrician.

However now i have another problem... I changed the dash in my cruiser and the fuel guage musnt work properly, and i ran out of fuel! I went and brought some more fuel, put it in, but it still wont start. I bled the system using the bleed screw where the injectors are... still wont start :(

any ideas?

Ryan

Never run the cruiser out of fuel........bad. I know I know the gauge.

Open the bleeder screw on fuel filter, pump the handle till ya see fuel. and no air.

Also you will have to bleed the air out of the injector pump, thru the top screw, do that first.

Second while cranking if it doesn't start, open one by one the injector B nuts on the injector(nut on line at injector) only half a turn is required. do one by one. If the engine is running then you will see the bubbles come out, and when no more bubbles come out go to the next one.

repeat a couple times.

You will have to use your primer pump to get it going...

RyRy, do you have the factory service manual?

if not try birfield.com for the download.

You gotta have it. Too many steps to explain in some things.

thanks guys, ill download the manual. Just out of curiosity, why is it bad to run the cruiser out of fuel?

oh it doesn't DO damage. But it creates a crap load of work to bleed out all the air. Since all the lines from the tank forward have air.

Your engine will run like crap till you get all the air out.

Not like a gasser with the boost pump in the tank and they purge the air in the carb bowl or efi.

The diesel system is tightly closed. As you are getting to know.

okay i got it to start, managed to get the air out of the injector lines...
although now its blowing a hell of a lot of black smoke when i rev the accelerator...

so do you know now why not to run it out of fuel? cause you asked why it was bad.

im hoping this black smoke will go away soon...

thanks for all your help guys, pity your not from australia, i would definetly be shouting you a few beers :)
