Thank you Sandroad. Yes, I met with my mechanic and he also said that he truly believes that this is the entire part.

It never hurts to double check with you guys though. Many of you know more about Land Cruisers than even the best mechanics who work on all types of cars.

The Atlanta dealership where I will be purchasing it from also requires my VIN #, so that will help ensure it is correct.

My apologies planomateo and anyone else who may have been interested.

So I ordered the Master Cylinder with all the extras (booster, accumulator) out of Atlanta Lexus for the small sum of $2250. Another $300 to put it in.

We feel like the brakes are still a little hard to push, as they were before. But otherwise car drives fine and wife is happy with it.

If anything happens with that car though, I'm taking that master cylinder out and selling it on ebay :-)

Thanks for closing thread!

BTW: You may want to offer your old parts to mud members'. Someone may be able to rebuild for spare.

I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT! I assumed it was a shot part.

Unfortunately it has been weeks since the repair. I am sure my mechanic no longer has the part.

Next time I will remember to do something like that. Sorry.

WHat exactly was shot? Motor, pump or piston/seals? There are three distinct parts that wear out here. There is no such thing as a complete assembly beeing worn out. (Well, it could be that they all failed simultaneously, but not likely)

PS. Btw, I also live off a small teachers salary. Actually there a 5 of us on this tiny, single income.

My understanding is that the whole thing needed to be replaced. Too much brake fluid leaked on it for too long.

Remember, I had two mechanics tell me the same thing.
